I honestly think if the two were on equal ground the whole time this fight would have lasted forever. They were both equals. The only Jedi Palpatine could lose to was Windu because of Vapaad.

Yoda didn’t lose to palpatine, he clearly overwhelmed his force and light saber abilities but got unlucky and fell far too low to get back up. Palpatine had backup coming so the “duel” was over

He lost cause he drew his light saber and was expecting sidious to continue the saber battle. The lightning caught him off guard, and since he didn't have/want to use lighting of his own, that lead to him getting blown back.

Yoda didn’t necessarily lose nor palps, Yoda just had to flee the fight to survive. It was a even fight tho. As we saw it looked like Yoda was winning
