Sidious got lucky. he didn't have superior force powers. Yoda just landed in a worse position.

This is the point I always try to make, even when I first watched it in the cinema, I knew Yoda had won, I had to explain many times why! I didn’t even think Yoda lost the battle, the emperor just got lucky enough to survive Yoda.

Yoda definitely overwhelmed Sidious with his lightsaber. I'm hoping there is a good Yoda movie on the horizon

Yoda is comparably strong with the force as Sidious, no Force user with the exception of legends Luke, is as great as Yoda in Foresight, Telekinesis and in say battle meditation and in defensive force powers as well, i believe Sidious has the upper hand for pure offense, expecially in legends (nothing can match a force storm except for lukes ability at taking control over a black hole) But Yoda was one of the most force sensitive and force attuned beings in the galaxy and he had such long lifespan to master his abilities.

Even when using the force Yoda didn't lose. The emperor tried all he could to throw all those Senator platforms at Yoda and Yoda avoided them grab them and threw them back. When yoda got close he tried to Force lightning Yoda, Yoda pretended to be getting electrocuted but then he stopped and showed that he wasn't getting electrocuted he was using the force to absorb the Force lightning. only the shock wave that blew both of them away that ended it. If anything was really a stalemate using the force

Yoda didn't even lose the force engagement either, when he finally reached Sidious and they engaged in the force combat; Yoda was only thrown from the senate seat because he was standing on the edge. While Palpatine was thrown back within the Senate chair and was able to finish his escape, sending clones to check and see if Yoda died from the fall instead of checking himself..he just hoped Yoda died from the fall to the senate floor and clearly didn't want that fight to go on any longer

*_I do agree that Yoda won the lightsaber duel. The original script has Yoda disarming Sidious, and this is supported by the junior novelization. But Sidious did not in fact have superior Force Power. Yoda was pretty clearly overwhelming him whenever they clashed with the Force. And it's well established that Mace did indeed outduel Sidious._*

I say, Yoda also won the force battel but he was to small and that's why he felt down to the ground.
Knowing he couldn't beat Sidious so easily and felt Clones coming in he decided to retreat.

Can I just note that even though Palpatine bombarded Yoda with pods, Yoda still hit one back causing Palpatine to lose focus so therefore no one is superior, also in the moment of the force lightning struggle, did not actually win rather it was balanced. Because even though Yoda got knocked back further, this is not to do with power differential, rather this is only because of Newton 2nd law Force = Mass X acceleration. Therefore, the forces exerted on each body is the same but because Yoda has a smaller mass, there would be, as we see, a greater acceleration to his body, in order to keep the forces balanced. Also Palpatine was left hanging and exhausted at the end just as Yoda was

I do agree how Yoda won the lightsaber duel, but I don't really believe that sidious is more superior than Yoda in the force.Yoda has a calmer mind than Sidious, which allows him to able to absorb and throw back his lightning and throw back meeting podium with much more force than sidious. Also, with those podiums that sidous was throwing at Yoda, the reason why sidous didn't hit Yoda was because his mind was going crazy and he was just throwing the podiums hoping one will hit.

He didn’t say Yoda won the fight, he said Yoda won the LIGHTSABER duel... not the whole duel

I don’t think sidious has superior force powers. He just used his distance to keep yoda at bay because he would run out of energy sooner or later. He won because he tired out yoda of old age, and nothing more.

Palps was very smart and manipulative. He "ran" initially from Yoda not because he was afraid, but because he really had nothing to gain from a duel with him and everything to lose. Lightsabers or not, Yoda wasn't able to stop Palpatine and ultimately lost.

Superior force abilities to defeat Yoda? Disagree. Lore Master has given many use of force strengths Yoda performed in battle. Sidious on the other hand has never picked up entire droid armies and threw them into in coming fighters or took a separatists drop ship and push it into another ship or push back thousands of droids with mace windu. or defeats a mountain monster from canon.
