I haven't done a Sunday Roast video on the channel in a while and though it would be a good time to head down to Stonehouse to try one of their carvery roast dinners. I've done a bit of research and found out that it's cheaper than Toby Carvery so as always, let's give it a go!

Gary, the 50K subscribers is purely down to your simple, honest, no-frills and mature approach without gimmicks. You don't see yourself as more important or more special than your viewers. Roll on 100k!

At a buffet, unless you catch them when the items are being refreshed, nothing will be piping hot, and any meat that's already sliced will have started to dry out. That's why they provide you with steaming hot gravy! It warms and moistens your food. This buffet looks like a good one, and you liked the staff. Sounds like a place for my dinner! (Except I'm on the wrong side of The Pond.)

Congratulations Gary. 50, 000 subscribers in six months is one heck of an achievement when what you're doing is nothing out of the ordinary. However, its the old story of the end result being greater than the sum of it's parts. You present well. The cameraman does his job equally well. The production and editing values are just right.
Plus you have that x factor that can't be faked. You're comfortable enough in front of the camera and you have the likeability factor, as evidenced by the warmth of the comments across the videos. You don't clutter up the presentation by extraneous 'b roll', music, or anything else. Lastly and most importantly, you know your subject and where you don't, you don't try to fake it. At least, I haven't noticed that. You're quite open about what you don't know and that's refreshing.
I don't know the stats for the percentage of YouTubers that make a living off the medium.
However, it used to be the case that of social media start-ups, only a tiny fraction of them would ever make money at all, or in a meaningful way. My gut tells me that the stats are probably similar for YouTube. You're on track to be one of that tiny fraction, so you ought to give yourself a huge pat on the back and have some drinkies to celebrate. 🥂 🍾

hi gary, we tend not to go to a carvery as they are too hit and miss in our opinion, we go to a local pub that do set roast dinners 7 days a week, nothing is frozen everything is cooked fresh, £11 for a small dinner or £14 for a large one and the quality is exceptional, many thanks for your reviews gary.

Gary, your reviews are always well balanced. It is a challenge to get it right because of all the things you need to consider: Time and day, staff shortages, the science of food is complex, temperature, comfort, light, arbitrary pricing etc. We know you are not nasty and are sincere. Fine qualities, especially these days.

Fair review Gary. They have a couple of Stonehouse near Cardiff. In general the roast potatoes are very good, the gravy the same. The quality of the meat can differ but for 8.99 it's a cheap feed. The place is always packed at weekend lunchtime and if the rugby is on its full of intoxicated welsh supporters drinking pints of Stella and stuffing their faces. Queuing up for the carvery I heard one exasperated woman say to her sozzled husband. "I've had enough, it's either me or the rugby." He piled his plate high and slurred back, "I'm gonna miss you." Stonehouse is ideal for the pissed working classes but the refined petit bourgeois avoid them like the plague. It's a snobbery thing, you must have looked like a fish out of water...oops sorry about the fish reference 😂😂😂😂😂😂

The roasters .. whenever I’m faced with that situation I simply say that they’re a little we done for me and ask if they’ve got any softer ones. They’re usually happy to oblige and whisk away the “rocks” never to be seen again.

The white sauce is Horseradish. Goes well with beef. I add mustard to it as can never have too much mustard up your nose!

Hearty congratulations Gary on reaching 50k subscribers ! Richly deserved ! I'm so glad to be part of your journey. I think you were on around 2k (or less even) when I started watching your channel & fell in love with the channel instantly, Honest reviews with no hoo haa or razamatazz. Your personality is what draws viewers in & wow, such an achievement in such a short time. On to the next 50k !! My wife & I love our Toby carvery & this one did fall short of their roast dinner. Some parts (meats) very good but some parts (veg, roasties etc) too dry. Good thing you had gravy that was good. Maybe the secret is going at the start of the service when it all has just been cooked & not left sitting there.
