If you're planning to buy an m4 pro or max then its better to just wait a couple weeks for it, But if you're waiting for the m4 air be prepared to wait 5-6 months so if you urgently need a laptop just get the m3 air since the difference in performance between m3 and m4 will be minimal. On paper the m4 is theoretically going to be 20-25% faster. However when you're actually using the device its going to be way less, and also since getting the air means you're looking for a laptop that can handle simple tasks then the m3 is enough and the slight gain in performance from the m4 wont really be noticeable.

Day 1 purchase for me. Been slumming on a 2012 MacBook Pro maxed with 16GB and 1TB SSD. So base M4 with upgraded 1TB disk should keep me happy for many years 👍

While I can appreciate upgrades in any and all hardware departments I think the place they are lacking the most is where they have set the standard on RAM, while 8GB and even 16GB for that matter were once a good standard for both laptop and desktop computers I think we have went well past 8GB being a standard on any laptop and even 16GB being a standard for any new age "pro" computer with that said I do not own a pro and really have very little reason to own a pro MacBook I do use a MacBook Air and for my use "basic use" the 8GB is fine but if you want to sell a premium product, at premium price then then you should have premium standards for those models. A pro MacBook should have minimum 16GB RAM (but 32GB is really much closer to a new standard) 1TB Hard Drive, Latest CPU and GPU, and compatible with the newest features and programs right out of the box.

I'm so tired of Apple and these weak upgrades. 16 GB of RAM in 2024 is still criminal. My iPad Pro has 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage. There's no way an iPad should be just as powerful as the base model of a laptop. Clearly, the M4 chip is ready it's already in the new iPad, just release the damn computer already. And don't get me started on "Apple Intelligence". How do you begin releasing devices before the thing you are selling them on "Apple Intelligence" is even ready? Steve Jobs would never smh. If Apple keeps doing this, its market share in tech will dwindle. I have a bright idea for Apple, how about instead of releasing devices with no meaningful upgrades every year, release them every couple of years so you can actually give us real upgrades. Not this: "It's 25% faster than the m1 chip" bs

It is recommended to choose 32GB of memory when purchasing.

I agree on waiting for the M4 Max, M4 Pro MBP, M4 iMac, and M4 Mac Mini. The M4 iMac will update to a Type C port for the magic mouse and a minimum of 16 GB of RAM. Same for the M4 Mac Mini in terms of RAM minimum. Obviously, the higher end laptops will get an insane levels of performance boost for extreme workloads.

However, the M3 Air with 16 GB of RAM is perfectly fine for their ideal target audience. That target audience are casual laptop users, light weight professional CPU users, and hobby photographers. A more powerful CPU & GPU, even though impressive, will not change much in the MacBook Air's target audience's life.

What’s the release date for the m4? I need a computer by the end of the month

I will stick with my M1 air thanks very much. This game of constantly realising new models in order to antiquate previous models is getting boring. It is time to fight back. Apple should be ashamed of themselves. We do not need M4 chips. The M1 chips were only released a few years ago. I am sick of these corporations making a fast buck like this.

I think the next major redesign will be in 2026, as that will be the 20th Anniversary for the MacBook Pro, like the touchbar one happened in 2016, 10 years after the original MacBook Pro.
