We've seen that electrons exist in energy shells/levels. These electrons orbit the nucleus and a specific number of electrons can exist within each shell. Today we discuss principle quantum number, electron shells, electron orbitals, Hund's rule and how calculating the valance electrons for a particular atom can help us place it on the periodic table. Knowing these concepts well is foundational for future radiology physics modules.

*Not sure if the question banks are for you?*
If you're here, you're likely studying for a radiology physics exam. I've spent the last few months collating past papers from multiple different countries selecting the most commonly asked questions. You'll be surprised how often questions repeat themselves!

The types of questions asked in FRCR, RANZCR AIT, ARRT, FC Rad Diag (SA), ABR qualifying Core Physics and MICR part 1 are surprisingly similar and the key concepts remain the same throughout. I've taken the most high-yield questions and answered them in video format so that I can take you through why certain answers are correct and others are not.

Happy studying,
Michael

I went to school before the orbital model was taught, and this video helped me a lot to understand the basics of it!
Great video, concice and well explained!
Greetings from Austria, where I currently study to become a rad tech.

Electron orbitals....
Let's focus on the N shell. The N shell is the first energy level that can hold all 4 types of orbitals.
Aufbau principle states electrons will fill lower energy levels first. So the 4S will come before the 4P.
My question is, In every case, will the N shell (or any other shell higher in energy) priotize filling up the P orbitals and all of its orientations first before moving into a different orbital within its respective shell?
