Love how Dave isn't afraid to call out crappy construction. Even on free stuff.

Check the leds by using your own powersuply and input a low voltage low current. Then see if the leds will light dimly all at once or some wont even light up at low voltages. Which is a sign of poor quality...

See bigclive's video about this topic

Glass vs. plastic isn't a big issue for LEDs as the temps are way lower than filament lamps - acylic is very commonly used.

Small correction, IP 66, means that it's dust tight (6), and protected against water ingress from powerful water jets sprayed from any angle (6). Pretty good!

dave, thanks for your videos. i used to hate analyzing and would never build electronics because they always seemed so complicated. you make it seem easy and able to be understood!

I'm just in the process of looking to replace my warehouse lights to LED, these are brilliant thanks Dave!

It's nice to see the different screw types at 9:05.
the conical screws have better alignment characteristics but the pan head screws provide more even down force.

They should send you one of the "fixed" units to teardown - and see if they meant it. Seems a little sketchy for them to send you prototypes even in this condition.

Newb question: At 16:00 you mention the viewing angles as "degrees c"...
Is that misspoken or does the c mean anything regarding angles ?

The sealing is how it's done for pro level electrics.
Part of the maintenance is steaming the metal to remove the paint and anything stuck to it.
A fresh coat is sprayed on, new seals placed and Bob's your Aunt.

Good teardown, hopey they take your words seriously. It's not too hard to change that.

Wish we had safer plugs here in North America..
Try plugging something into the wall in the dark, when you have to put a finger on one of the prongs to line it up with the plug. Super sketchy

You are spot on there Dave, that earthing is not at all compliant. It should connect to a clearly marked earth stud inside the case with something like a ring terminal. From there it probably wouldnt need to be connected to the Mean Well supply but I probably would.

Nice to see they they used the insulated plugs and steel cable gland.

I'm sorry but I gotta call BS on the whole samples for Dave thing.   They didn't think Dave would take it apart?!?!!?!   Really??!!!?!!   What has he NOT taken apart?!   They should just say yeah we screwed up on the mounting of the PS and we'll change that...

It all looked good up to the point where Dave showed the label and I seen the Chiglish spelling of "Wattage" then it went downhill from there. It didn't fail to disappoint once he cracked it open.Would have liked to see the thermal camera on the power supply brick after an hour or two of use in that enclosed housing.

So someone sent a guy known for tearing stuff down some stuff to review, and didn't know he was going to tear it down?

Great bit of research there, makes me wonder how they even found out about Dave without realising the teardown part. Still, I was waiting for the part where Dave found out the earth either wasn't connected to anything, or wasn't connected to the chassis, seems to be a common theme of these lights from china.

It would be awesome to see a tear-down of a fancy led for corral growing and see if its worth the price.

Nice tear down, probably going to be a good sub for fluorescent or sodium warehouse/factory lighting. Was surprised that they figured you wouldn't rip the thing apart tho, they haven't watched enough  of your video's yet I guess...

I wouldn't be happy with the unearthed chassis. Certainly wouldn't pass CE marking as there are single insulated mains wires in there..

I would like you measure the efficiency of that driver. Saludos amigo
