Midlife Career Change: How to Not Regret Making a Huge Life Decision

These tips will help you make a midlife career change without regretting it. Finances and retirement are major considerations, of course. And what if you quit your job, find a new position, and hate it? Getting a new job when you’re fifty or older is the second biggest life decision you might make (the first is who you marry). At midlife you're also thinking about retirement, aging parents and adult kids who still need financial, emotional and physical support.

Very timely video Laurie, thanks for sharing. I definitely don't have the money to retire, but I'm not letting that stop me! No time is promised and life is far too short to stay stuck. Looking forward to seeing you in the spring!

Life is short and best not to have regrets. I have had an incredible life, but it has been full of challenges: physically, mentally, financially. I'm seeing lots of ageism in my late 50's in my business that I have loved being in. I am being forced to change careers to make money. I hate that fear is creeping in.

Great advise. But nobody ever talks about an older woman, 60, changing careers, with a huge gap in your resume because you were a caregiver and many other things but without a W2. Then what can you do? It's really hard to find answers for this scenario!! Talk about stress and fear!!!!

You remember when you were a kid, and you wanted to be a so and so, then, you wanted to do this, and then that!? I remember taking one of those career questionnaires when I first entered Junior College and the ONLY result that came out was to be a Security Guard 😂I did not choose that path. My last career was that of an event planner, my own business. Sold that, and in my 50's my wife told me to pursue what I enjoy doing, my SippyCupAdventures, and at the very least, create some passive income, which I am doing on one front. I would love to make money blogging (as I revamp my website) but I am in such a niche, passive income is all I hope to expect. Backed by the fact that Patti makes good money allows me to do what I am doing. So, this hits home, as I would imagine it would do for most of your followers. Best to you as you pursue your equine dream, right down the same path as my daughter. Cheers 🥤

Hi Laurie! Making changes at any age can be daunting and exciting all at the same time. Equine therapy sounds like a great fit for you!
My husband and I are both getting close to 65, so OJ is starting to think about retiring from his job. I’ve already retired from my ‘jobs’’, although I don’t really think of it in those terms. A few years ago we retired from being foster parents after fostering about 300 kids over 30 years and adopting 5. I never wanted to be a teacher either, but ended up homeschooling our kids for 35 years! I know that sounds impossible, but because we adopted our ‘kids’ ages go from 45 - 16! Our youngest decided to try public school for the first time this year, so unless she decides to come back home, my teaching career has ended as well. Now here we are starting a YouTube channel! Whether we ever earn an income from it remains to be seen, but it’s fun and challenging to start something new at this time in our lives. 😊
I so agree with you about how important life experience is in some careers. The longer we fostered, the younger the social workers were getting and education and knowledge from books only go so far, especially when working with kids!

Great advice Laurie and I can relate 110%! I’m 71 and coming out of retirement to do what I love (and used to do) which is counselling. My focus will be senior women and this Fall I will be offering my ‘If Not Now, When’ workshop! I am a certified counsellor and Sacred Gifts Guide. So excited for this new phase in life, which includes finally becoming a full time van lifer. Wishing you continued success, freedom and joy! 🚐🇨🇦❤️
