That's the same fishing knot my Grandpa taught me when I was a kid. Now I'm 30 and it's still the only fishing knot I use. Teach a kid and they'll have it for life indeed!

Now I thought this girl scout was a knot champ but that bonus knot is a winner! I confess, my Dad always tied the bait on for me. Thank you for the Real Deal and the quick memory of a wonderful Dad.

Great video thank you for it. My daughter just turned 5, and we watched your video together while I helped her with the knots. She got them down!

My uncle showed me the fishermans knot bout 30 years ago. Forgot it due to lack of fishing... Thanks for the brushup. It will come in handy now I have two little girls to backcountry hike, camp and fish with. Glad to see this was a turorial vid and not an "instructions" vid.

I worked on these knots since Saturday, I have never had the patience to teach myself knots before your video, thanks!

Fantastic video! Great subject matter, clearly executed. I've been 20 years procrastinating basic knot tying... no more excuses. I can't finally tie a decent (several decent) knots. Knot tying will definitely be part of family camping this year (and maybe the tent will stay up)..

Great instruction! I knew 4 of these, and now I'll have to learn that tarp knot. Thank you!
You are so right in pointing out that we have to teach our kids this stuff.

I also use that knot for fishing line. It surprises me how many people I know that don't use this knot for fishing. Luckily they know now after showing them multiple times. Thanks for showing the others as well. It definitely is a lost art.

Great video. I never heard of the square knot being called a reef knot, once you know square/reef knot the sheep bend knot is easy to learn. Also if you can tie a clove hitch you can a half hitch (clove hitch on a rope) These are knots I teach Cub and Boy Scouts. I did not know the Cowboy Knot but it looks very useful, practice time.

I use those knots quite often and really like them. The fishermans knot, I learned as a young boy, but forgot all about it. Thanks for the refresher!

Awesome tutorial YP, I did what you said and learned these knots in about an hour and will now remember them for the rest of my life. Thanks for the life lesson

YOU ARE THE MAN! I just used 2 of the newly learned "Tarp Line Knots" to save me 8 bucks on straps to tie an adjustable blanket holder...or anything rolled (with handle/line to strap to pack). Then I wrapped my paracord back up and used the "Clove Hitch" to keep it secured and organized...thanks Yankeeprepper

Great reminder, When I am on vacation in Canada, I make it a habit of practicing some of my favorite knots... if some of the folks out there are like me, who don't always use some of the knots all the time, practicing once a year is a good mind "reminder", better than trying to remember how the knots goes under stress.

Great video. Love your disclaimer too. Get so tired of all the unnecessary comments on other folks' videos. Like this a lot. Thank you sir.

During my rigging class in my apprenticeship. the lead instructor said just remember " if you can't tie the knot.. TIE A LOT!!" .. he was joking of course! Thanks for sharing!

Yankee, great video. We kept losing our hay off the truck when I was 15. Dad brought us a rope and taught us how to cinch down the load. Can't tell you the name, but it kept the hay on the truck, then, and this weekend it kept the kayaks, guitar case, and camp box tied in the back of our S10. KNOT Knowledge is a great skill. I'll be sharing these. Thank You.

Hahaha! Love the Austin Powers reference.
On a separate note, you inspired me to Wikipedia some of these knots (not to learn them though; I'm an Eagle Scout), and I was reminded of the thief's knot. I think a thief's know tutorial could make a great comedy video. You could instruct the asshat crowd on how to employ thief's knots to determine whether someone had stolen a handful of rice in the night.

Nice vid yankee! As an iron worker I can attest to the value of knowing these outside of a work environment.
