INSANE INSTANT RELEASE KNOT!!

Gamechanging remote release knot. I use it for camping and hiking, but it's also very useful for lowering items at jobsites and a few other everyday tasks.

It's technically called the "Bellringer's Knot" or Half a sheepshank.

It's name is the "bellringer's knot".
Traditionally used for suspending the ends of bell-ropes in a church tower when they're not in use. It's also one half of the sheepshank and the loop used in the "quickie" variant trucker's hitch.

It can be made more stable by adding a second hitch of the standing end over the bight which prevents it from twisting free unexpectedly. Though this forms a clove hitch, ensure you keep the two apart to allow it to spill on demand.

I like how I’m saving these knot videos acting like I’m ever going to use them lmaoo

I just use a gravity hook. Holds while weight is applied. The second the weight is gone, they open. So once the gear touches the ground, you can remove the hook. You can also use it to raise gear, too. As long as the hook has some kind of handle, or something to grab onto.

Cost me 5 bucks, and is the size of a Keychain.

Whenever I lower things that are not as valuable as a person, but still valuable enough to refer to YouTube so I can remember how to tie it, I will faithfully use this knot.

Tbh, in 13 years of mountain guiding I never found myself in a situation to need this knot

This knot is famously named by the guy who fell after trying to be lowered down a cliff but died from it coming loose and is buried at the tomb of the unknown knot.

It may remain the coolest knot I’ve never heard of because he doesn’t say the damn name of the knot

I use the same loop/bite combo for the 'pulley' of a truckers hitch, it saves having to feed the whole line through a tied loop.

Man I love knots. So many variations. Something about tying knots is an awesome skill to know.

It's a half sheepshank. If you know one, you know the other. This is good.

I like how he says "a person or anything valuable" putting them as two separate things 😂

Dude what crazy is I did mountain search and rescue. Some of these knots I’ve never seen before. I’ve seen this one, but some amaze me. I wish I could go back in time.

Very useful. I like that you add, don't lower a person with it!
