Reviewing Google's Pixel 9 Pro, a fresh new compact alternative to the XL-sized model with zero compromises to the camera tech, battery life etc. The Pixel 9 Pro is a fantastic addition to Google's smartphone line-up, and a joy to have stuffed in your pants. As a fan of mini smartphones, this is one of my favourite new small-ish models that can still kick it with those oversized blowers. That camera tech is as versatile as a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra or iPhone 16 Pro Max. And yet the Google Pixel 9 Pro can slip with ease into any pocket. You've got the full telephoto capabilities of the XL, while the battery life is easily as good too.

The Tensor G4 does a dependable job with everyday running. The Pixel 9 Pro boots up in a handful of seconds and apps load instantly, while gaming is also pretty smooth. With Wuthering Waves I did see some judders, which is a shame for a flagship phone. However, you'll still get a pretty stable frame rate on the highest graphics settings.

Then of course there's Google's AI features. The Pixel 9 Pro boasts a catalogue of useful tools, although the single year of Gemini Advanced is a bit of a kick in the knackers. Check out my Pixel 9 tips and tricks guide for all you need to know!

Best thing about the Pixel 9 is what it's done for the prices of the other Pixels. Just got the 8 Pro 256 for under £600.

For me, the Pixel 9 Pro XL is the phone of the year. As someone with a disability, I love the voice command feature—it's just impeccable, even better than on the iPhone. The streamlined and minimalist Android interface, especially in the settings, is another strong point.

However, I'm not ready to switch from my iPhone just yet for the simple reason that the iPhone is still superior in terms of photo and video quality. The day Google understands that instead of focusing on unnecessary artificial intelligence, they should focus on surpassing the iPhone in photo and video capabilities, it will be a game-changer.

You’re capable of it, Google—you have the money and the talent to surpass Apple. What are you waiting for?

I have had my pixel 9 pro xl for 2 days now returning back to Android from my iPhone 13 pro.
Was a little laggy in a few apps, just didn't seem smooth but I upgraded to the Android 15 beta and its buttery smooth now.

So far, I am very happy and should enjoy this phone for the next 3 years on my plan.

They finally fixed the heating issue as well. Owned several Pixels from the 4XL to the 8 Pro. This is a breath of fresh air. Making a bold move as the Pixel fold will be available to phone carriers in Canada this year.
