How I Stay Focused Working 14-Hour Days - My Flow System

The ability to focus for hours is my SUPERPOWER. Simple. If there is one skill that has allowed me to excel throughout my time studying at Cambridge and then working as a corporate lawyer, it is my ability to enter a state of flow. And the secret sauce behind this superpower is my 4-part system that reliably allows me to get in the zone and be productive for 10+ hours a day.

So, in this video, I'm sharing my system to get into, and stay in, a state of flow while working. I share the practical techniques that I use to put my body and mind in a state in which it's easy to do deep, focused work of extremely high quality.

So, take elements of my system and build them into your own system to consistently enter a flow state (and feel the crazy increases in productivity that come from flow)! Let me know what you think down in the comments 😊

About Me

I'm a lawyer, part-time YouTuber, son, brother, startup founder, fiancé, black coffee drinker and plant dad. I graduated from Cambridge University (where I studied French and Spanish), topped my law school class and now work for a corporate law firm in London as a trainee solicitor (which takes up a lot of my time)!

Around that, I'm a big fan of discovering new ways of thinking, of balancing work with life, and of performing to the very best of my ability. Ohh, and being happy. And I try to share all that on this YouTube channel 😀

Fun fact: I believe we massively overplay the role of “natural talent” 😮 AND… I also believe that TOGETHER, WE ARE ALL CAPABLE OF POSITIVITY, PRODUCTIVITY AND SUCCESS.

It’s rare I put a comment like this, but this video genuinely helped me today. Staying productive has been really hard this week, and I wanted to end the working week positively. Watched this video at lunch and it genuinely helped me.

Liam, it's clear you pour your heart and soul into these videos. You yourself are an incredibly rare person in that you personify what Jordan Peterson says men should aspire to be: "Productive generosity". You are not only productive / valuable to society but you then turn around and are generous with your time and ideas, to help others rise up as well. You don't clam up your ideas in some selfish drive.
Liam, do you have any ideas on how best to achieve flow state when revising/memorising Law Notes? I'm facing my upcoming Bar Exams here in Bangladesh and goddamn is the materials at times just mind-numbingly boring. At first read its initially interesting, but the repetitive repetition needed to bloody stick in your mind just takes the wind out of me. Any tips from personal experience, brother?

There's nothing more satisfying to me than cleaning up my desk after a day of work. Makes me relax on one side and clean up at the other

Thanks for explaining something that crossed my mind about quality of sleep. Some of my work environment is outside my control as I work some of the week from a desk that I have to book as my employer uses hot desking in an open plan office even though I try go in on the same days I don't always see & speak to the same people hat I work with. On the days I don't work from the office I tend to do taks that more conentration as I can control the environment . It dosen't matter where I'm working from I try and go for walk for 15 to 20 minutes even if ti's to buy tickets for my train journey ahead of the day I go to work from the office that way I can just get the first train and not have get stuck in queues to use the ticket machines or served by staff at the ticket office. I try and plan my day by looking at the what I'm scheduled to be doing and online meeting I need to attend.

Hey Liam,

gotta say, the title really grabbed me, but it kinda sets the bar in an iffy place.

I mean, aiming for a 14-hour of focuses work every day by breaking it down into 1-2 hour chunks? That’s up to 7-14 sessions a day if I did the math right. Plus, you're also squeezing in 8 hours of sleep, some regular workout time, and those necessary breaks between sessions (which, let’s be real, adds up to at least another hour and a half). When you map it all out, it doesn’t leave much wiggle room for the rest of life's stuff, right? How does one fit in family time, hobbies, or even just chilling? And, with this plan, it feels like you’d be snacking non-stop. Don’t get me wrong, there’s some solid advice in your video, but as it stands, it kinda feels like a fast track to burnout city rather than a balanced life.

Just my two cents!

Is it just me or are all these "productivity-youtubers" such as Ali abdaal, Liam etc. starting to just recycle each others content? I mean don't get me wrong these videos are beautifully edited and put together but holy moly the content/advice of this video is pure cookie cutter stuff (sleep is important to have flow state... NO WAY, keep an organized work environment, avoid distractions), such generic advice that sounds like its straight spit out from ChatGPT..?

Good job click-baiting me with the title though with the "working 14-hour days", it got me curious if you would have some other advice to offer than what countless other youtubers have already made a video about.

Don't take this as a critique, but simply as feedback that instead of pushing content out just because you have to reach a certain quota of videos per week, really think about the content & originality of these videos. This is coming from a longtime subscriber.
