8:00 So reassuring that Ali admits that even in a 14 hour study session only 4 hours was true ‘deep/focused work’… Really takes off the pressure from apparently unrealistic expectations.

Make a list of all the books you've ever recommended with a one line description of it.

As long as you set yourself up with a task and do it every day, you will automatically stay focused as that’s what you get used to

He said 5hrs of deep work out of 14 hours of study and felt this heavy feeling of dissapointment and guilt leave my back..😭

I love that you were keen on explaining being realistic with one’s self, and breaking down that the actuality of studying for 14 hours, is really about 4 hours give or take with procrastination. I have persistent depressive disorder and major depressive disorder, along with PTSD, OCD, and chronic sleep issues. I’m very critical of my productivity levels, and hearing you realistically explain your production intervals is incredibly helpful to be more realistic and kind with myself.

After I read deep work by Cal Newport, this video kinda confirms everything that it said in that book, great one Ali!

This topic sounds familiar 😄 I have been working on my "working method" too. Deep work is indeed a helpful book. I would add "The artist's way", which I find useful as someone working in a creative field. ☀️

I LOVED this book as well. I re-read sections of it occasionally when I feel like I'm getting off track, and it always helps! And I agree, picking one primary task for the day is key for me to not finish the day wondering how I moved the needle forward. The 4 hour workweek is another great productivity book to cut down on useless tasks in my work day.

Great video as always Ali!. I'm realizing that consistently keeping to one thing over an extended period of time achieves great results. One day of focused work won't really make a difference, but sticking to a routine for a long time, that is where it is achieved. Haven't read Deep Work yet, but on my list to get through!

This came at the exact right time.
I have been forcing myself to study for long hours despite the fact that I can get that stuff done in lesser time and less stressfully.

Successful people maintain a positive focus in life no matter what is going on around them. They stay focused on their past successes rather than their past failures, and on the next steps of action they need to get closer to the fulfillment of their goals rather than all the other distractions that life presents to them.
Just a tip for improved focus in your work process: try listening to video game music. It sounds like a stretch, but it works because it was designed not to mess with your concentration.

We need to be more realistic about what is an achievable amount of productivity

This is one of my favourite books, I have read this year. It teaches us that in today's world how important deep work is. When you do deep work, the result you produce becomes very hard to replicate. I'm happy that you made a video on this book.

I read atomic habits and loved Ali's video on it. That's how I found him first. Next I'm currently reading Deep Work and there's a new video from him. This means I'm on the same page as Ali. 🙌😇

Productivity is a hobby.

You might enjoy learning the skills, the mindset etc but sometimes the hobby just isn’t for you. It might be better if it was but we need to view it as something to be enjoyed, not a end in itself

If I work for more than 1.5 hours at a time, it's like the law of diminishing returns for me.
