the box literally says to put it in horizontally i was SO confused and so i figured it out and went to youtube for validation and got it so i'm glad im not alone in

Everybody in the comments- please remember that your ceramic rings should stay submerged in already treated tank water, while changing filter cartridges or cleaning the tank/filter etc....
Otherwise the majority of your biological load can die off rather fast and lead to ammonia spikes! No joke it can kill your fish fast!
