Install the hanger BEFORE lifting the 553lb 5.5"x16.5" @RosboroVideo X Beam. This is an @strongtie HHUS5.5/10 high capacity hanger. In order to achieve the design loads, I have to use the specified nail. You nailer won't shoot this size nail but my @MartinezToolCompany M1 will though 😎
.
If we are going to do it, the let's do it right. Save effort by installing it now instead of off a ladder. #framing #framer #engineering #framersareadyingbreed #SkilledTrades

"The HHUS is designed for applications where higher loads are needed. This heavy-capacity hanger features double-shear nailing that distributes the load through two points on each joist nail for greater strength. This feature allows for fewer nails, faster installation and the use of all common nails for the same connection."

Everyone on here saying palm nailer, they stink. They are loud. They break all the time. They are for when you can't swing a hammer. This guy's got the right idea.

Great work! I've been in contractor sales for over 25 yrs and I can tell you that most builders don't have a clue on how to read a hangers "load table". Most truss companies supply the tables with the nailing requirements highlighted and guys still use 1-1/2" pneumatic joist hanger nails. Thank you for this video. Maybe a more in depth video is in the

I can feel the pain in my elbows myself with so many nails in just a half of one hanger.

Was that hammer polished? I admire you stuff but I used a palm nailer because I can’t afford to miss and mess up that hanger because those nails are nearly to actually impossible to remove.

People I work for insist 1 1/2" hanger nails are good enough and maybe so but in my experience inspectors never check and never enforce it. Would make me feel so much better using 3" nails to carry the entire second floor load. I swear the things some people "save" money on. I understand not every hanger needs it but some people think 1 1/2 is good for everything. And another thing, I hate TJI's and wish they would stop making them. Not better, twist and bow, explode when you shoot them and have fun adding blocking to those stupid things. If you want a nice spongy, junk floor that will probably collapse then by all means.

If that's what needs to be done, so be it. (HAMMER TIME)

You don’t have to use Simpson nails though lol. They make enough money

A little bit more time and 10 times. Better job.... The norm these days is put the shortest possible nail in half the holes... This guy means for it to stay put

Larry Haun could drive those nails in two strikes at night with a tack hammer.

Are u you allowed to use wood screews for that type of bracket, or do you have to use what the catalog says to use ?

Three seconds per nail... How many manually driven in? Expensive hangers 😮

I imagine you could use a framer for that if on a ladder.

Are GRK’s or any type of screw recommended instead of nails?
