Framing 101. Nail the drywall backing before the floor is sheathed. Nail over the studs NOT between them. This way the other trades don't hit nails when they drill. Kyle showing the right way and also why we are using the @PaslodeUSA XP nailer for this.....no hose.

Incidentally those are indeed LVL top and bottom flange on the @roseburgforest Joists.

Proper trade work means thinking about the next guy. Making their life difficult compromises your work.

Small correction. "Stud bay" not "joist bay"

But you are 10, 000% spot on with this.
Always stack nails over the top of studs with each layer...

so you dont F over the plumbers, electricians, and hvac when they go to rough in the utilities..

Bottom plate wants a specific nail pattern as well so you can leave each bay open for drilling and roughing utilities into the crawl space.

Learned this one the hard way myself 😬

If only other trades treated carpenters with the same level of considerstion.
Last big site I was on I had an hours worth of coving work ripped down by the HVAC guy who came in for half a day. Most annoying thing Is they destroyed my work first then told me, rather than ask.

It was complicated and tricky to work out, even the cuts themselves were difficult as it was wrapping around a steel I beam which was being left exposed. That’s just 1 example this thing happens constantly. I don’t mind if someone asks because at least it gives a chance to think of a workaround. Wasting my time like that though is essentially stealing cause I’m getting paid to do the job, not by the hour.

It is called deadwood. It is not backing, it is not overhang, it is deadwood. And what you should pointing out is that it should be nailed just exactly as the man is doing. Nailing the DEADWOOD to the double top plate over the studs, so that when the plumbers, electricians and other subs drill holes to install their plumbing, wiring and other things they do not hit a nail with their drill.

As an electrician I would love to work with a GC that is thinking about his subs. It’s hard when you constantly need to think about every other trade but no one cares about your trade.

Think about the next guy. As a plumber these small tips go a long way for the men down the lone. Good on this contractor for following suit

as a general contractor who performs most trades on my own jobs, I have to think about the next guy cuz I am the next guy,

on bigger jobs most trades could care less about the one before or

Nice to see you’re always thinking of the end and for plumbing adjustments for toilet flanges etc

I like my air paslode. Gas is cool and handy but air is way faster and more dependable. I’ve worked both to death😁

Yes Mr Awesome framer, nail your backing directly on top of the studs

I was a plumber for three years when I was younger an I used to drill all the holes. when framers don’t nail above the studs it makes life hard an gets expensive replacing the drill bits.

So that they won't hit a nail later when drilling holes through the top plate?

We had a gas powered pass load on the job when I was a repair guy. The battery would always needed to be taped in a half-in position. Hopefully they've fixed the problem
