Tips & Tricks for Efficiencty.  Layout just the top stringer, screw them together.  Use a beam saw to cut all 3 (bottim will be partially cut).  Move in the same direction to save time left to right, then right to left.  Pop the top stringer, refasten the lower 2 and repeat.  Finish the cuts with the jigsaw and now we have identical snowflakes, no over cuts and minimized the work.  Make sure your saw is square. #framer #framersareadyingbreed #efficient #quality #skilledtrades #carpenter #huberpartner #makitatools #keenutility

Yes sir, that's it. Thanks to the craftsmen who taught me in about 1975.

This works as long as your saw fence is exactly 0 and your 2x12's are perfectly flat. Otherwise you would be making snowflakes

It's all about knowing HOW to use the tools.

Pro tip:
After lay out, and before you start cutting, use your portable drill press attachment to drill about a 5/8” hole in the corners where the tread and risers meet. Line the tip of the bit up where the lines meet.
This will prevent splitting, cracking and over cutting. It will also allow the tread to go back all the way in case there was some undercutting, usually caused from the jigsaw.
• Give it a try on the next one, I think you’ll like it

Best tool purchase I've had last few years is getting a Makita 10 1/4" corded circular saw. From gang ripping, post cutiing, to concrete sawing it already payed for itself 20x at least now. Basically a table saw in hand form with a big enough blade to let diamond blades cool by air when concrete sawing without water.

Its hard to find straight lumber without a ton of defects right where the stringer cuts will go.

I had a guy say he wouldn’t gang cut the stringers because if he made a mistake he was effing up 3 boards. Sillyness. Gang cutting is the way, they always match. I also cut my stringers with lvl instead of sawn lumber. The results are much more predictable.

In your sawhorse-making video, I was wondering if you could have screwed the four sheets of Advantec together - or at least a couple of them - and employed this same method?

Do you think that would work, or do you think it would be too dangerous and/or there would be other issues with attempting to plunge cut that material at that thickness?

(For reference, I am not a professional framer, but someone who aspirationally wants to build their own home within the next 5 years, and has found your videos to be a big help in terms of understanding how pros do things efficiently.)

I had to waste an entire 2x12 before figured out to not mark each stringer individually, to mark one and then cut the other ones under that

Now that was a good informative video way to go. I call you out but I also praise you. A few pencil marks on back side help to re aline it up also

Someone needs to teach the carpenters who framed a house I worked in recently to cut their stringers... Their middle was 1 1/2 high and caused stress in the midde. My boss fell through.

Id rather only stack 2. Too much blade wobble on a 3rd piece.
