I agree with another reviewer, the best video I have seen in the explanation of this. The writing it down and diagramming it out for us is extremely helpful and not giving us fancy stuff and jargon beginners cannot grasp. Thank you very much for sharing.

I agree with all the comments on the beauty of your simple explanation of keys. I am a guitarist who has played for nearly 50 years and yet my mind goes fuzzy when musicians speak of keys and 2 flats and 3 sharps and whatever. I never had any idea how they knew that or its importance. Now, in the span of a few minutes, I get it. I'm going back and re-watch and listen. Hated being an illiterate musician.

I have a test today on major scales, and all that jazz. And I would like to personally thank you for helping me on this test i am about to ace. My teacher is brilliant, but he has an issue with portraying the subject material in a way us beginners can easily grasp. You just saved me. Thank you.

I was in a crunch this morning having to memorize and perform all of the major scales on the keyboard this afternoon and this was the best this has been explained to me. Thanks so much!

I just remember that 3 and 7 are half steps in every major scale. Thank you. this was good for the details, especially on sharps and flats being consistent in the scale.

I've read several articles and have viewed several videos and tutorials of basic music theory and Not once, (until this video) have i seen somebody speak on the differential place of sharps and flats as to where they fall on a major scale. Much appreciated.

Well explained and I'm sure many beginners will benefit from your basic approach. The only thing that confused me (I am a semi retired Music Teacher myself) is why you call it contemporary. These scales have been around for centuries.

Now I understand what or where those sharp & flat keys are on the piano. I like your formula too. I subscribed. Thank you

I am a vocalist and started music with a recorder and trumpet as a child. I taught myself piano and upon gaining a piano teacher they always thought I knew more than I really did. Hence the reason for the major gaps in my theory knowledge. Hence, here I am attempting to teach my son basic piano but knowing I need to start with theory first and particularly the formulas....great explanation! Thank I'm relearning piano the right way....hopefully an old dog can learn new tricks! Thanks. I'm a visual learner so this really helped me!

By far the best explanation of this. I have watched many others trying to figure this out but you explain it perfectly and I can't believe how simple it really is!!

This instruction takes it at a good slow pace, what the beginner needs. Thanks mate.

I am a freshman and doing pit. Although I'm doing auxiliary percussion I was told to memorize the scales for mallet percussion. This video was so helpful in helping me memorize the scales.

Holy crap, what an eye opener. Some of this stuff was hard to wrap my head around and you explained it so well.

As a ukulele beginner, what really helped me was having another tab open with an ukulele fretboard diagram. Now I understand so many things that I've been told - something like "the strings are tuned to G, C, E, A". It never occurred to me that the fretboard is simply a layout of half steps all the way down, beginning with that note on the open string.

Also, I learned the C Major scale by memorizing where to put my fingers on the frets, based on a video, but I wondered how I could continue into the next octave(s). Now I get it.

It's absurdly obvious now LOL

Thank you! :)

Thank you, I am a beginner, but I am very much interested in understanding the theory to learn the right way. This has been extremely useful for my scales practice.
