How to Make MCT Easier After Boot Camp
After graduating Boot Camp, Marine Combat Training (MCT) is the next step for non-infantry Marines. Here are a few tips to help you get through MCT and make it a smoother experience.
1. Act like a Marine, not a recruit—How you carry yourself can affect how you’re treated. If you act like you’re still in Boot Camp, your instructors will treat you that way. Instead, show up with the mindset of a Marine, ready to learn and adapt, and you’ll find the environment more relaxed and effective.
2. Invest in good gear—Don’t skimp on boots, insoles, and socks. Cheap gear can leave you with blisters and foot pain, so spend a little extra on high-quality items. It’s worth it in the long run, and your feet will thank you.
3. Avoid getting into trouble—It’s tempting to cut loose, but don’t fall into bad habits like underage drinking or reckless behavior. You’re still in training, and making bad choices can lead to serious consequences. Keep your head down and focus on the task at hand.
4. Enjoy the experience—MCT offers a lot of unique experiences and skills you may not encounter again. Make the most of it, soak up the knowledge, and enjoy the camaraderie. Once it’s over, you’ll look back on it as a memorable part of your Marine journey.
