I'm confused now. This is very different than the video I just watched (Kevin with Epic Gardening). All he did was looked for a node (which I took to mean tiny leaves on a main stem) and then he cut the stem area above the node, which in turn would grow themselves. He didn't remove an entire group of leaves like you did.
