in my problem log x + log (x +1) = log 2, I keep ending up with a negative number when i check my problem but i still doesn't look right.

with the COB formula you would have log(5)/log(4)*log(16)/log(5). the log(5)s would cancel and you would be left with log(16)/log(4). Then log(16) would reduce to log(4^2) and the 2 can go in front of log and it would be 2log(4)/log(4). the log(4)s cancel and the answer would be two. hope that helps your 11 month question...:P
