How God Begins to Describe Himself in the Bible

Compassion is a deeply emotional word used to convey the strong bond between a parent and their child. In this video, we look at this rich Hebrew word, the first one God uses to describe himself in Exodus 34:6-7. God is portrayed as a compassionate parent throughout Scripture—both as a mother and a father, and his compassion is embodied in the person of Jesus.

I lost my baby at 18 weeks pregnant this last December. This video/concept has helped me open up my heart to trust God again. There's something comforting about, not only God having compassion on me in this difficult time, but also God understanding and relating to my motherly heartache.

"He describes Himself as a mother..." I cried 😅 I have a complicated relationship with my dad, so when people say 'the father loves you', that's always been hard for me to relate to, even though I know it's true. But if I think that He could love me more than my own mother?? I'm speechless. I love Him so so much.

This is so true. The Father is compassionate. I was dating this guy who I really cared about but it wasn't working out so I broke it off. My heart was devastated. A night later I was laying in my bed getting ready to go to aleep and I felt the Holy Spirit prompting me to talk to Him about what was going on with me because my heart was broken. I told Him to not to worry about it. I didn't want to bother him with the issue. But He kept pressing, I heard him gently say "come on, tell me." As I preceded to tell The Father I started balling my eyes out twlling Him how much I missed the guy. Within seconds of telling Him that guy texted me and we talked about things. See its not about the guy but that God cared so much about my hurting heart and that He came to me to console me. This is what I say to You my brothers and sisters, please do not hold back your pain and hurt from The Father. He truly DOES love you and is on your side. He is ready to console and heal you. This is one way He knew it would make me feel better at the time. I'm healed now from that incident and relationship; that is because of The Father as well.

I don’t have a good relationship with my mom. God showed me that love that a child needed, and I am so grateful for that

This is what the world needs now more than ever to have compassion towards one another and to love each other as Jesus commanded us...it would stop these politically motivated divisions

It would be amazing to have these interpreted to American Sign Language. The Deaf Community would gain so much clarity as a result of such a visual aid in understanding the Gospel. If you ever need a volunteer. I am willing. It is absolutely worth the time and energy!

Thank you for this. Our son has had life-threatening health issues for years (two kidney transplants already), and I have felt like the Lord was angry with us all this time.
I feel a weight lifted off me today with the thought of God’s compassion toward our suffering. God bless you all ✝️

This is so mind boggling, I'm from Indonesia. And we have the Indonesian word "rahim" for womb. Never realized it had a Hebrew origin, until today! Thanks so much for the lovely videos. Love from Indonesia.

A great theologian once said, "Who knows why God allows heartbreak? The answer must be important enough because God allows His heart to break, too."

This is just amazing! God's very first description of Himself is "compassion", and he didn't just stop there; He went ahead to demonstrate this compassion by dying for us on the Cross. That's like Him saying "I don't just love you by mere words... I proved it, now I hope you believe me when I say I will never be angry with you, never again will I rebuke you" (Isaiah 54:9).
