Oh man, the older I get the more I realize how funny I used to be, thinking I knew so many riffs!

As a 13 year old guitarist I can confirm this

My mom liked Metallica. Said that the stuff Kirk played was as complex and subtle as classical music. Gotta love mom!

Not true. I sounded absolutely amazing playing this at 13. So great that my Mom actually bought me some VERY nice studio headphones that I could plug into my marshall every time I played! 🎸 🎧 🤴

I actually mastered my downpicking pretty quickly so there was no problem there

You look so much like the redhair metal puppet, even the Dimebag guitar.

Okay. This made me laugh because I spent the latter half of the 70s in my bedroom trying to learn Montrose, Rush, Zeppelin, ect with a guitar plugged into my brothers home stereo.
I can totally relate.

Yup!! Man I remember when I bought my first guitar. A takamine electric that looked like if a explorer and a bc rich had a baby. I was 13 years old. A few months prior I had just gotten out of the hospital after surviving a deadly.bacteria infection which was the same shit that caused the black plague lol. Anyways I had seen my friend playing guitar at our 8th grade talent show, the very night I got sick but I remembered how cool he looked and all the attention he got from the girls. My dad was broke after taking time off work when I got sick and all the hospital bills. But I wanted to learn guitar so bad. I begged my parents into letting me strip tobacco at my cousin's barn that winter . I was still like 20 lbs under weight but they let me try and work. I worked my ass off in the cold barn that winter. Bought my first guitar and a Marshall practice amp and became obsessed. My grandpa taught me how to tune it and showed me a few chords. My friend taught me the intro to enter sandman over the phone. My uncle gave me a copy of the black album on cassette . Got a few guitar world magazines and my friends at school taught me to read tablature. Im so glad music came into my life.

The fact that I am 13 and I am learning master of puppets right now really shows
me that this is probably how I sound lol

This is one of the funniest and truest guitar clips of all time. I started at 15, about 20 years ago, and probably a year later learned this, but completely gave up on the downpicking 😆

The older you get, the better you see things as they are rather than as you wish them to be. I’ve been playing off and on for thirty years, and yeah, I was definitely that kid. The crazy part is that Hetfield was only in his early 20s when he wrote Master of Puppets. What did you accomplish in your early 20s? I didn’t do much.
