People can have a lot of success when they switch to using a dog training head collar with their dog. They can see less pulling and they can have a lot more control of their dog's head, which can be very helpful. The challenge with using a dog training head collar is the process of removing that collar over the course of training. If done incorrectly, the dog can seem to completely regress in their training. This makes the hard-working owner feel like they have become dependent on that head collar. In this video, we're going to hear from Instructor Steve. Steve will discuss the process of weaning off of that head collar so that you and your dog can be more successful. You will begin to see your dog being more successful and more reliable when you follow the steps mentioned in this video.

Head halter was a game changer. My dog now walks without hurting herself. Highly effective. I believe we will be off of it and to normal walking pretty soon because of this.

I've been using a gentle leader on my 8mth old Kelpie for a few weeks now. He had alredy learned how to walk on a normal leash and flat collar, but as he got older he started wanting to pull and sniff to an extent it was becoming a major headache in the making.

Tried him on a gentle leader and had amazing success from the moment I fitted it. Zero pulling and no desire to either. He can now go on long walks up to 5 miles or so and will walk on a loose leash the entire way without complaint. He no longer stops to sniff every bush and blade of grass. Instead of keeping his nose fixed to the ground, he walks with his head up and looks at his surroundings. I can easily get him to change direction by simply giving the leash the slightest flick in that direction. He also holds his tail up happily and proudly when walking on the leader, so it's clear to me he's not in the least bothered by it. Closest to any "discomfort" he shows is occasionally stopping to roll around and rub his head on the grass. Doesn't attempt to remove it though.

I'd definitely recommend trying one. It was while watching dogs at a local obedience class, I noticed a lot of owners were using a gentle leader. What stood out to me was how many of those dogs were working/herding breeds like Kelpies, Border Collies etc.

I do allow my dog off-leash at the appropriate time in the appropriate place. I don't bother removing it when I let him go free, just unclip his leash. Even though I have no physical attachment with him, he still walks far more calmly and stays a lot closer than if I take it off completely.

Unbelievable how well the gentle leader has worked on my dog. Totally transformed him with almost no effort on my part

I don't have to worry about weaning my dogs off of it. They both absolutely hated it! I'm going to switch to a halter style with the clip in the front. Hopefully that will be much less stressful.

I tried the gentle leader on one of my dogs but he flipped out and started to rip it off his face. I tried several times in the house with no luck. Thanks for the information.

Thank you so much for your videos ! Im self training a Aussie to be a service dog and your videos have been helping us through his puppy moments . Im wondering, hes having issues with people running past him and triggering his herding instinct. Hes never nipped at anyone else but my calves are full of little nips. Would something like this help us with that kind of behavior out on walks ?

My current service dog was so abused before I rescued her that I couldn't even touch her. In the line of service dogs, she is my third one. She was about 4 months old and reminded me of a baby version of my second service dog. I fell in love with her almond eyes. She is shiba inu and american eskimo and boy can she be a pull-a-matic lol. I used a halti with her because she has really high prey drive and the abuse history. She will be 11 in May and about the only time I even need to show her the halti is if we are going to the duck park because she goes INSANE over squirrels!!! A few summers ago I ended up in PT because I ened up with a shoulder injury when she went for it.

I have a giant breed 1 year old male. I am seeing a trainer and have been taking classes etc the past few months. With him weighing as much as I do now, his excitement and pulling has been the biggest hurdle . I use a Blue9 Harness with front clip and now for the past 2 weeks have been starting him with the gentle leader. He still has his moments where he throws himself down and rolls around out of frustration with the head halter. How long is too long for this to continue? I need this tool to work so I can get passed his pulling but seeing how frustrated he gets is upsetting at times. He is doing so great all in all, but he is reactive to dogs (in a "I want to play" way) and need to get passed this.

I have a very people nervous american bully, I have only had her for 3 weeks, she's about a year old, she walks pretty well off lead and isn't half as fearful, but on lead she pulls like a manic (she takes flight), I got her the head harness hoping it would help, but Omg impossible to walk at all, she bucks stops and pulls backwards, and that was in a quiet place with just us..

My shelter dog is a nightmare. Been trying training for 2 months barely making progress. Inside the house yes not outside. I just ordered a face leash. I've trained all my dogs and never had this much difficulty

ahh thanks for the tip about the T-pose.
I work with dogs and we have customers who use them and I end up asking the parent to put it on, haha.

My dog hated the gentle leader. It got to the point he would just lay down and refuse to get up. I ended up using the prong collar and it was a huge difference. I wouldn't pull on it, just a gentle correction would stop him from pulling.
