Hey guys, I was taking a look at my videos and I began to feel like I have only highlighted the good/fun stuff of owning a dog without discussing what it's really like getting a puppy. After all, It's not all sunshine and rainbows, there are days I'm scrubbing dog doo-doo off of my floor. So, I decided to make a video of 5 things you NEED to know before getting a puppy. I guess you can call this the less than glamorous, behind-the-scenes part of dog ownership; basically, everything I do in taking care of dog If you are considering getting a puppy you must watch this to be prepared for a new puppy. Also, if you know someone who wants to get a puppy this is a MUST share. I hope you like it =]

Yes! owning any pet is a huge commitment and responsibility and it is so important people get a pet for the right reasons and know what they are getting into. Great video!

Owning a puppy made me so much happier, I was very depressed, and she made me have to exercise, sleep, cuddle and meet new people. Owning a dog changed my life, which sounds stupid, but it really did.

My dog died a few months ago and I have to say that it's true that dogs contribute to your mental health. Ever since she died, I've been suffering with depressive episodes and I find myself a lot more sadder. She definitely made me a lot happier and even though I obviously aren't going to get a dog straight away, I'm hoping to rescue a dog or two in a few years.

I work at a dog daycare, and there's one thing I'd like to add.

YOU WILL NEED TO TRAIN YOUR DOG. It sounds obvious, but we have so many owners who think that their dog will just magically become behaved as it grows up. That's not how it is. If you want your dog to stop jumping, if you want your dog to respond to its name, if you want your dog to listen to you, you have to put the time in. I don't know why people think their dog will just grow up and listen perfectly, and then they get upset and blame the dog when it's 3 years old and still jumping on everyone and destroying the house. That's not how it works. You need to put the time in to teach them.

Thank you for talking about puppy depression!! It's not talked about very much but VERY REAL!! I've wanted a dog my whole life and when I finally got one, I was so depressed and feeling like 'what have I done' but luckily got through it

Also on the subject of walking puppies, your puppy shouln't be socializing with other dogs outside until it's fully vaccinated.

He's a doctor, he's charming, he's handsome and he loves dogs. Is there something you don't do well Dr. Mike?

I really loved this no-BS video on some of the struggles and realities of getting a puppy. And it was really well-presented too. Thank you from me and Punky (my 12-week-old French bulldog) in Sydney, Australia.

As a vet tech, I agree with all of these. Also the part where he researched Newfies before getting one? That's what everybody should do before getting a breed they want, and keep in mind there's still might be surprises. The dryer thing: If you going to use the hairdryer do it on the cold setting. Your pup will appreciate it. BTW:

Puppy depression is something I had and was not aware that such thing even existed! 2 weeks later I got used to Cooper, he got used to me and we had the best time ever till his last day. I always recommend for beginners to host a dog (for instance, from shelter) for a week, 2 weeks, month or so. You give them love and attention they so desparately need and as a bonus, you get an understanding what it is to have a dog 🐶
