This Apple fanboy is getting fed up with the Apple ecosystem, especially since the release of the iPhone 14, with its limited upgrade and that pretty ‘meh’ Dynamic Island. So here’s a lifelong iPhone user’s review of the brand new Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and I have to say, I’m very, very impressed. In this video, I will explore what it’s like to switch from the ultimate Apple flagship to the best-of-the-rest, the S23 Ultra!

Last galaxy phone I had was the S3 which I switched over for the iPhone 5 and been with iphone since. Traded in my 13 pro max for the S23 Ultra a week ago and I must say, it feels like a breath of fresh air.

My favourite thing about PC/Android is the file system of the phone. A true file explorer and the ability to just copy-paste anything the moment you plug your phone to your computer.

Apple Calendars. iMessage. Apple cables. Nothing worse than proprietary tech. That is one of the reasons I've never had an iPhone. I love Mac computers, but I want to use the best product in each category so I'm mixing and matching. I will have brand loyalty when brands are loyal to consumers. And that is never going to happen. Until then, I stick with brands that don't strong arm me into their ecosystems.

The thing most Apple users don't understand about Android is that it's 10x more customizable than iOS. If there's something you don't like about it, you can change it. Whether it's the lock screen, app shortcuts, animation speeds, text bubble colors, etc, all can be changed to how you'd prefer you aren't stuck with whatever Apple wants it to look like

I was going to wait for the 15 pro max to come out, but when rumors and leaks started and it became obvious it wasn't going to be any different in general term from the 14 pro max, I went for the S23 Ultra.

I´m pretty happy with the decision, battery life is crazy, charge it once every two days, cameras are amazing, also media consumption. It was a great upgrade from the S9+.

Great video, I switched from iPhone during the iPhone 6 era but I've always had my ups and downs with android phones. The S23 Ultra is geniunely one of the best phones I've ever used and thats coming from someone who's just upgraded from the S22 Ultra.

I think people overlook one thing about the space zoom that I've found massively helpful. Being able to zoom in on parking time signs and building hours from far away is amazing since the signs are always so small.

The exterior of the Samsung S23 Ultra LOOKS like the S22 Ultra but its cameras and internals and subsequent performance has improved dramatically.
The S-Pen is excellent when editing photos, modifying or taking custom screen shots, creating gifs, selecting text the list is endless.
Android can just do so so so much more than Apple you will be blown away.
Endless customisation and personalisation.

Thanks for sharing. Samsung's spacebar cursor control feature does actually allow you to scroll up and down too. Also, Samsung has the 'one handed mode' feature that shrinks the screen so that everything is reachable (you can customize how this is accessed via Advanced Settings)👍🏼

Also you don't have to touch the left side of the phone to swipe left. You can just swipe left and right from pretty much anywhere on the screen.

I am a long time iPhone user that has switched to the S23 Ultra. Im really happy so far, but I do miss the face detection for opening and iMessage, but other than that, I think I will stay with Android.

You can navigate back from the right side of the screen as well, on the S23 Ultra.

Also with moving the cursor around while typing, the Samsung keyboard works as well as the IPhone's

Both Samsung and Apple phones have their pros and cons. I'm an S22 ultra user but I also have an iPhone 12 for work. I think that if i weren't a techie and I needed something really simple and easy to find my texting, photos etc., I'd go Apple. iPhones are great for grandparents and thats part of the reason they're so popular, mass appeal. But if you know tech, you should be running a Samsung. Tech-wise, they're objectively better.

After using the S22 Ultra for the past year and just upgrading to the S23 Ultra a few weeks ago I must say it's a complete beast of a phone performance wise. Feels more like a two year gap between phones, and I did have the Snapdragon Gen 1 version of the S22 Ultra. Think it's the combination of the 4.0 UFS memory and 5X Ram along with the Gen 2 chip and the kicker is the battery life is substantially better this year. I'm getting nearly a half days worth of extra battery life with my new phone which is not something that I was expecting. Usually when companies drastically improve performance there is a battery life hit or they have to make the battery larger to compensate. Not with the S23 Ultra, which is a welcome surprise. Also, something that I haven't seen mentioned is the much improved performance of the X70 Qualcomm modem with built-in AI and nearly 50% more power efficiency. I'm not getting any dropped calls that I was getting occasionally with the S22 Ultra and the call quality itself is much better....definitely a bonus when we actually have to make a phone call. I noticed the power curve is improved when using the Samsung 45 watt super fast charging and is quicker.

Nice to see more and more Apple fans making the switch. I really like the freedom to use other products besides just Apple products and their walled garden. If I want to switch phones it's incredibly easy to take everything with me and my chargers still work. Actually quite surprised Apple is still using the outdated lightning port on their iphones. They have even switched to the superior USB-C port on their iPad Pros but are really dragging their feet on their phones I would think for pure profit.

Couple things. Check out One Hand Mode in the settings if your hands are on the smaller side. It's quite useful and can be initiated quickly if needed in certain circumstances. Also, you can speed up the animations from 1.0 to 0.5 ms in the Developer Mode which is a nice little option. The stacking widgets on the home screen is a really nice feature I find myself using fairly often.

Thanks for the review and enjoy your new phone!

I just swichted to Android last year. Really great decision. And breaking from ecosystem was really easy tbh. Unlocking macbook and iPhone with Apple watch never worked for me 😂😂😂

Had my S23U for a week now and its been amazing. Been wanting a change for a while now having been with apple for nearly 7 years. Samsung phones and their approach to Android has changed A LOT since my last experience with one. I think Android phones in general are a lot better. Ironically my experience with the Pixel 6 Pro wasn't though. Anyways the S23U has blown me away and no way do I miss Apple

Fantastic video Pete, your balance on the positive and negative of both iPhone and Samsung is a refreshing change.Your opinions are very similar to mine, my personal phone is apple and work phone Samsung I don’t mind either platform tbh but I find iOS just that little bit more intuitive but like you wouldn’t be upset using the s23 at all. Also after your review of the ultra I purchased from Costco at a much reduced cost bringing the watch prices a little closer just to put a spanner in the works 😊

I think it really depends on the user. For example, I’m not really a person that gets jazzed about “customizations” … I want my phone to be reliable, fast, simple interface, and have strong staying power with updates. Hate it or love it, iPhone does well with that. Especially if you’re like myself, and having the watch, and use a MacBook as a work driver on a daily basis. Seamless, easy, and predictable- nothing wrong with that.
