Better Than The Air Puff Test? (Icare Tonometer)

Показать описание
This is a demonstration of the ICARE Tonometer, a device that can measure intraocular eye pressure without using the dreaded puff of air!

The non-contact tonometer, air-puff test, does a great job at screening for irregular eye pressure to test for glaucoma. There are other alternatives to measure intraocular pressure as well. Goldmann Applanation Tonometry is consider the gold standard at measure eye pressure. It does require a numbing eye drop to obtain the measurement. Another option is called the Icare Tonometer. No air or eye drops are required to get this measurement, and can be fairly reliable and accurate when done right. A lot of patients prefer this method over the others.

When I was little, the doctor described the second one like "a tiny little frog is gonna lick your eyeball" and being the young boy who liked gross stuff, I thought that was awesome.

I'm an optometric Technician and I gotta say that the newer non contact tonometers are great! still use the puff of air but if you have your eye nice and wide open, you barely feel it

The air puff test is uncomfortable but somehow my favorite part of an eye exam. I like to see if I can take the air puff without jumping back. One puff per eye each year and I've still never done it xD
Edit: update, had an air puff test recently. Flinched twice, smh

Just had catarac surgery and this is what my Dr. uses. Much better than the puff test.

Went to a different eye clinic and wasn’t ready for the first eye puff… she didn’t inform me the puff was coming, and I nearly fell out of the chair. 🤣 I thought it was funny, and was laughing, but she looked annoyed, like she just wanted to finish up quickly.

my doctor uses the second instrument. i think they’re super cool though. it’s amazing how far technology has come to inform us of our health.

I only started going to an eye doctor recently, and I absolutely HATED that probe test. It took them like 10 tries per eye to get it done correctly. An air puff sounds so much better.

I’m an ophthalmic technician and we have a handful of patients everyday that ask if we’re gonna “do the puff of air” to check their pressure lol. We have the option to use iCare for pressure checks but I prefer Applanation because it’s what I was trained on. Most of our patients don’t even realize I’ve touched their eye with the prism tip once we finish and are super grateful they didn’t have to get the puff!

I have a chronic eye disease and I've had to get the air puff test since like 7. That little machine is SO MUCH BETTER. They used it last time I went and its wonderful

I had detached retinas in both eyes. I had to have this done loads of times after the surgery. THIS is much better than the puffer.

My eye doctor still uses the thing that touches your eye that's blue to test it. My last eye doctor didn't have that or the puff test. He used a thing that looked like a tire Guage that you press against your eye. This looks awesome

i've never heard of the air puff thing, here i've only ever had that machine take my pressure. i absolutely love it, my eye pressures were once in the 50s and i had to get them checked out every week. easily my favourite medical thing!

I instinctually flinch when I'm on that machine anticipating it. I swear my nerves feel shot for the rest of the day 😂

I use these at work. Can confirm that patients much prefer this. It is a lot more gentle/less jarring.

I just experienced this thing at the optometrist. And now I know for sure it did in fact touch my eye.

I definitely prefer the air puff test, I had a few eye doctors use similar devices to that and it always took multiple attempts to get a reading, air puff takes one go for each eye
