Checking Eye Pressure Looks Crazy!

These are a few different ways to measure eye pressure during an eye exam!

Goldmannn applanation tonometry, he non-contact tonometer (air-puff test), or the Icare tonometer are some of the most common ways to measure eye pressure. Goldmann Applanation Tonometry is consider the gold standard at measure eye pressure. It does require a numbing eye drop to obtain the measurement. Either way, it's not a really fun test to have done, but it's very important. Checking eye pressure can help doctors screen for eye diseases such as glaucoma, which can be a "silent theif of sight."

I’ve gotten this pressure check done every 3 months for the past 30 year years. So I figure I’ve had this done over 100 times. You get used to it if you have glaucoma and prefer that much more than the eye puff test.

I’ve had the first one done once and never felt a thing without drops of any kind in my eye, but my doc was amazing. Haven’t found one as good as him since bc he’s retired now

Icare tonometer my pick. Applanation tonometer is removed from my ed slitlamp because no other doctors knew what it was. Tonopen can be used vertical, great for trauma patients. Never used a air puff but experienced it last time I got eye review. As a patient I'd take air puff.

I always had to deal with the puff of air, but when I went to get my glasses alone for the first time, the doctor used the Tonometer, which I will do for the rest of my life.

When I had my eye exams, it's always the air puff test that blows in your eyes, I instantly shed tears when it happens including when I look at bright lights

I have to do this fairly often. I have thygersons Keratitis and have done since I was 3/4. More common in elderly people but I've had it now for 16/17 years
