as a current barista, these cake pops are actually expired ones we keep in the display case each day from the day before in order to limit our food waste. they also have us count explicitly how many food items we get shipped to us every morning, and once we’re out, we’re out. if food stays over and they have a long expiration date ahead of them, we have a yellow food bag that we put them in. we count how many get thrown out, and over time this creates an average number of food items that get specifically sent to stores according to their costumer volume. sometimes us baristas even give out treats at the end of the night if they’re ending up in the donation bag anyways.

Starbucks really cracked down on our food waste. we regularly get trained on how to handle food disposal, trash disposal (to limit overall waste) and recycling disposals. we even give away our used coffee grounds for free for customers and their gardens.

As much as everyone points fingers at her if she's caught on camera eating it or taking it home they can potentially fire her, it's not her problem it's a corporate problem, same thing at McDonald's, id assume taco bell, star bucks, jack in the box, arbys, etc.

Shes not the problem... the companies who ENFORCE throwing away good food are the problem...

So many people who can't comprehend my point are crying in the comments... you have a brain. Use it for the first time in your lives.... do not demand i be nicer because you CHOOSE to be ignorant children.

A month later and people are still to daft to comprehend what i said.... yall need mental assistance

I wouldnt eat it. Its probably been sitting out since the morning. We did the same at dunkin donuts because our donuts wouldnt come until 12am. She may be wasting food but to give a customer or to eat it yourself when its been sitting out for a while is a risk.

The fact that people are saying the cake pops in the display case are expired but the barista gave me the one in the display case two days ago 💀

*impulsive. If you want to do it, it’s not intrusive. Though in theory it could be intrusive during the work day if it’s distressing, unwanted, and she can’t stop thinking about it. Generally though, if it’s something you would actually do if given the chance but you have to stop yourself, it’s impulsive. If it’s something you really don’t want to do, you cannot make it go away, and the idea of doing it is upsetting and goes against your morals, it’s intrusive.

I think the lady values her job more than some old cake pops being thrown out.

She's not the one wasting food Starbucks is, and if she were to eat it it would be stealing😅

For people who get mad at us regular workers for wasting/throwing away food it’s the corporates rules that we have to follow otherwise we’d get fired, we can’t hand out food that’s been tampered with or been sitting out for longer than it should be due to food safety either there’s so many reasons

Yes it is a problem....that STARBUCKS is throwing away good food, not her fault that she's just following the rule so she doesn't get fired

They should get those wax food replicas made for the display cases, they're big in Japan & look amazing. No more waste, no more flies in display cases, no getting fired for sneaking a cake-pop 😅
