A new report about the future of the Destiny 2 franchise just game out from Jason Schrier that paints a much more bleak picture than originally teased. Things are never going to be the same in the Destiny 2 universe.

More news has been coming out about the Destiny 2 and Bungie situation as it stands. As you know 220 roles were eliminated and 155 have been integrated into PlayStation. Today we've discovered that future plans for Destiny 2 have been drastically scaled back, and leads Mark Noseworthy and Luke Smith have departed the company.

Previously: Today Pete Parsons, Bungie CEO announced that they would be eliminating 17% of their staff in sweeping layoffs that would impact the company. The Destiny 2 Final Shape team is reeling today as Bungie employees take to social media to call out CEO of Bungie Pete Parsons for this devastating decision. The Destiny 2 layoffs will result in their incubation project being passed over to Sony, and in addition to the 220 roles eliminated, 155 roles will now fall under PlayStation. The Bungie 2024 layoffs come after a brutal 2023 that also saw reductions.

How poorly do you have to manage a studio for it to go insolvent 3 years after going independent?

Payback just shows how lost the leadership was. That would have flopped but hey so will Marathon

Whats crazy to me is I'm seeing A LOT of people defend Pete Parsons. You do realize he's a big part of the problem right now, right???

How do you mess up a cash cow like destiny and end up with no money😮

It's over not just for Destiny, but also for Bungie as a whole. Sad.

Bungie died by bad management and Lightfall DLC

This is what happens when you nickel-and-dime your customer/fanbase for 10 years…

It’s not the content, it is the little things over the years that just added up and gotten to much for most players.

So even if the game is actually greater than it ever was, over time players just got tired of the constant grind that is still left in the game, and getting short chanced on every turn; like with bright dust, bright engrams item duplicates, silver, dlc expansions…

The ever-verse store prices that are so ridiculously expensive it’s insulting and disgusting.

Material upgrade cost of gear and weapons, the light levelling system that should have been retired/sunset long time ago…

PVP and Gambit Maps that don’t even get a few much needed design changes to refresh them.

The list goes on and on…sadly 🤬🤷🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Death by a thousand cuts…

It's been a shell of its former self for a while now. Both bungie, and d2.

i am no destiny 2 expert. I have about 850 hours in it. did a little endgame. I enjoyed the campaign (while they were in the game) and I enjoyed the co-op but I ended up quitting because it felt like they weren't investing in the game. Another X-PAC, another small map and $100 price tag. I didn;t know about buddy's garage so i really had no idea where the money was going.

now to find out they wernt even really working on future d2 content - it just feels like Bungie squandered their fanbase.

I find it funny that PS didn’t have some sort of failsafe considering the facts beforehand. I mean I get they basically said we are just going to take over the Studio completely in the contract, but 3.6 billion for an absolute sham, I’d be out for management blood.

They should be either absorbed or sold by SONY they need to pay their dues for that 3, 5 billion.
