I’m not being hyperbolic when I say that the recent news that’s just come out might change the entire future of the Destiny franchise. 40% of bungie gone since last year, Pete parsons, ceo of bungie demanded to step down by current and former employees, raids being cut, DLCS SHORTENED IN THE FUTURE, LUKE SMITH AND MARK NOSEWORTHY, LONG TIME BUNGIE VETS GONE, and a rise of video game unions. Now I’m not just talking about Destiny 2 - I mean literally everything about the IP itself and any future Bungie projects set in its universe. This round of layoffs and the cancellation of Payback implies that the long-term future of the Destiny franchise has been totally screwed up due to the ineptitude and greed of the upper management at Bungie. Plus, they may have violated the WARN act in the state of Washington.. But, hey, at least Pete Parsons got his cars, right?
I’m guessing most of you have already heard about the news so I won’t waste too much time rehashing what’s been said already.

Some points I want to expand on here:

Destiny "payback" was a much different vision that was most definitely in the earliest of stages and we do not know what any of it would look like. The game featured 3rd person options and gacha game like mechanics.

New plans for destiny 2 seem to have a lot more free content akin to "into the light" so maybe we are going to get some more core focused updates in the next year. It's impossible to tell what every job in leadership was, but Mark Noseworthy and Luke Smith gone means that the next steps for Destiny will happen for better or worse.

WARN wasn't necessarily violated, but it's something to consider as this story plays out that I don't see most youtubers mentioning and hope the best for the employees in this situation, special thank you to twittysuch for bringing this to my attention

Thank you for being apart of my journey so far, I want to tell you that I really want to cover stories all over and Destiny has been my home for so long, but a break is needed aside from projects already in development. It sounds dramatic, but these were plans I had before the news of layoffs.

Well, at least The Final Shape was good. I was intending on saying goodbye to D2 after I finished that expansion, and all of this unfolding feels like the final nail in the coffin for me.

I remember the nintendo CEO receiving 0 payment for a few months since the company was struggling and he said... I have enough money and the employee's shouldn't have to suffer for my mistakes.... Now that is a management mindset

Seems like Warframe is about to win the Destiny vs Warframe argument after 10 years

7:00 when the wii u was failing, the president other higher up at nintendo took a massive pay cut just so there employees could still be able to eat and make rent

This is what happens when you just assume people will all just buy the 99.99 edition & project unrealistic margins……….the people have spoken

Nobody wants another Bungie project besides Destiny. They won’t realize this tho

its sad to see, but bungie brought this on themselves, almost ten full years of destiny, where they kept ignoring the community, now Bungie is imploding
sad to see but they had it coming

After the 3rd episode i dont see a reason to invest anymore time in a game with a uncertain future

Even without the layoffs, I fear Destiny 2 might have taken a nosedive. We've gotten our Infinity war, our endgame. And now we where approaching our phase 4. Episodes to me at least, felt kind of weird. I'd hoped that they could turn it around and steer away from another round in the irrelevance fluff like season of the defience, deep and witch.
Safe to say, none of that matters anymore. Rip destiny, you'll be missed dearly.

Reminder that Sony paid billions to not just get Bungie the company but to keep the Bungie staff and now Bungie has let go of the people Sony paid to keep this is a fucking joke I hope Sony takes over Bungie after this announcement and tires to hire those people back or at the very least try to keep the people they have right now and to immediately get someone who knows what there doing to take better care of the company

Pete Parsons is the “two tokens and a blue” of CEOs.

I struggle to understand how Bungie can make slight alterations to the same game for a decade, charging 100+ dollars for the yearly content, with the addition of micro transactions and still be in the hole.

Rhetorical : but thanks for the answers lol.

I met Drew Tucker when he visited New York during Into the Light, we talked a moment about the round of layoffs that he had survived just before that dropped. I remember joking about the bounties (what he made) and then thanking him for them because I love the flavor text.

I cannot fathom what surviving so many rounds do to your mental health.
