Well, only tattooed gang men are being jailed. You must commit violent acts, namely murder, in order to get a tattoo. Anyone caught with a gang tattoo who didn’t earn it, will be permanently maimed or tortured and killed. El Salvadoran tattoo artists won’t give one to someone without the gang’s go ahead, out of fear of reprisals.
So, while it is possible that an innocent person could be caught up in this, it is highly unlikely. I do find myself questioning why they would leave such pertinent information out of this report. It’s not like the BBC has an agenda or a narrative that they’re trying to promote, is it?

I have family in El Salvador, my wife is from El Salvador and they have been victims of the gangs from there. I think it's well deserved the punishment they are getting, I think they deserve more but this will do.

Though I hope if there are any innocent people there they are let out but for the rest they can stay there.

That is a perfect move; all countries should do the same. Human rights organizations should stop defending what has no defense, the same as pseudo-journalists covering the news from their bedroom in pj's, not knowing what is going on in real life of ordinary citizens of this country.
