This is what a prison should look like! Hardened criminals moving in sync and avoiding attention while obeying orders! A prison term should be remembered and respected by an inmate, NOT GLORIFIED! Some, here in the US identify it as a milestone, and it must be achieved to receive respect and a sick form of accountability. Criminals should FEAR prison!

The saddest thing about all of this is that there were programs to help youth in gangs leave gangs or stay out of gangs dating back to 2004 and earlier. These men were given so many chances to change their ways and they took advantage of the good will of the people. The more they were given the more they abused, to the point were they were given a voice in politics, had prisons that were a gate away (with good food, play station, prostitutes, family stays, many freedoms), they had programs that would give them money and training if they opened up businesses, centre’s for rehabilitation, and even hefty church donations, and even with all of that, it wasn’t enough for them. They wanted more, they wanted everything from everyone, they wanted to be treated like kings without ever doing anything good for society. They abused, abused so much until one day they used up all the pity the country had for them, and now the country has no more pity for them. Their sad tale of being victims of a corrupt system and a broken society no longer works, the country smarten up and saw that they didn’t want help, they wanted power, the peak that they reached was that they almost became a political party in El Salvador. Imagine a bloods gang leader whose killed hundreds, ordered acts of terrorism, and put the country in so much terror that the united states starts negotiating with them and considers giving them political power. If you’re from America, don’t feel pity for them, these things are animals.Just to be part of the gang they had to prove their loyalty to the gang by committing a gruesome crime which could be either killed someone, killing their mothers, their fathers, siblings, and very commonly raping them before killing them. These thing are being treated better than they deserve, and the reason they’re saying that they are being abused is because instead of giving them the freedom they gave them before (prostitutes, barbecued food, game consoles, family visits, computers, etc) in prison, El Salvador has now shaped its jail system like it is in America. They are treated just like American prisoners are treated.

What El Salvador understands is that gang violence is no longer a criminal activity, it's a war. Yes mistakes will happen, and some innocents lives will suffer. But that's true with any war. Pray that the political leaders have the strength to see this through and other countries follow.

Gotta weigh the numbers, dozens of innocent individuals died due to these policies, but thousands were dying every year at the hands of these gangs.
