My mom will take room temp butter and add garlic salt herbs de provence and montreal into the butter and coat the prime rib in it, then into the oven at 450 for 15 minutes then 12 minutes for every pound at 325, after it is done she lets it rest for about 20 minutes, tastes great, and its always a nice medium rare.

That is the perfect color. If you don’t like it, get the end cut. Don’t kill the entire roast.

This method works beautifully. I've done this several times. This also works well with a cheaper eye of round roast! Add some ground mustard seed to your rub!

My mom used to make prime rib by encasing it in rock salt in a covered roasting pan at 500 degrees for a similar amount of time. She followed the same process of shutting off the oven, and leaving in the oven for 2 hours without opening the oven door. No other seasonings. It always turned out perfectly, after chiseling the salt crust off the surface of the roast. Sometimes she would put it back under the broiler for a couple of minutes.

Trim the fat before salting it overnight. If not, the fat absorbs most of the salt and your roast is not seasoned enough. Other than that, this is a great recipe. You can also tie it before salting it.

Looks so good I’m putting this on my bucket list, thanks.

I suggest you leave the fat cap on. Plus, it will render down as it is cooking. It gives tons of flavor. It also makes a lovely crust. People can cut the fat off if they choose not to eat it

If you have bad quality beef I’d understand putting all those additional flavours on. Prime rib is some of the tastiest parts of the beast. Just salts needed to enhance, maybe some garlic bulbs, thyme & rosemary. Nothing in a powder form

My family didn't like the medium rare. I cut it. Can I put it back in the oven?

I think thats too rare. I like this guys mom's method. But, since i have to do a small one, i have to do differently and watch to not overcook. The " turn off the heat and let rest" is so importAnt. People forget it continues cooking after the timed cook is done😅😅😅

That roast probably costs around $250 ??? That’s how much it is at Costco or Sam’s. Maybe around $300 at Kroger.
