Funny how when you start the game and see ASGORE mentioned in red by Toriel and all, it makes you think of this terrible, ruthless tyrant, but then everyone else speaks of him as a big ole softie and you actually meet him and find out that he IS a big ole softie (who can kick your ass if he wanted to). I like how much of a 180 this game pulled on him and Undyne

Considering how Asgore never wanted to fight you in the first place, and also considering that he has _very_ high stats, you can consider how difficult he'd be if he actually wanted you dead.

4:24 I actually really like this theme because not only is it really well composed but it really shows asgores emotions a king who lost his son to humans and hated them which then made his wife turn on him he doesn't want to kill you but he feels like he has no choice.

God this piece is so beautiful. It captures the emotions spot on, and the timing of it is so perfect. Easily a top nominee for most the emotion inducing moment in video game history.

The game goes to great lengths to repeatedly warn you that this is going to be a battle to the death between Asgore and the Player. If you played the game the right way you enter full of confidence that you can find a way to spare him and solve this peacefully, since that's what the game has taught you all the way through. Then Asgore destroys the Mercy button taking that option away in one of the most heart wrenching ways possible. You'll search and search for a way to not fight him and might even be willing to die a few times in that search, but deep down you knew right away that once you lost the Mercy button, it was a futile attempt to begin with, and the game wasn't lying to you. This encounter only ends one way... Desperately hoping that the inevitable can still somehow be avoided, you brace yourself and for the first time, finally stand your ground.
