Thanks for the video Jesse. Ive been working a 9 to 5 for 20 something years and experienced so much BS its not even funny. Always regretted not going after my dreams. But now is the time to take that plunge and go all in but with some wisdom of course.

This made me smile. Doing a job just for the money for people I didn't respect drove me crazy too! 11 years ago I handed my letter of resignation along with with the tray of teas I got asked to make.... Man that felt good! I ended up being a gardener because it was the only thing I could do with no outlay and no gear. I moved from one thing to the next gradually becoming more and more free. Building kitchens, delivering, selling second hand stuff, kitchen fitting, tiling and now finally after 11 years I am doing what I love and having music as a career focus. It's been well worth it though and the journey has taught me so much. For those reading in a crappy situation. Stick with it, be brave and Never Give Up! It will eventually happen if you are savvy enough :)

I’m in a catch 22. Live with parents (they’re beyond encouraging to keep my studio at home) but trying to buy a house which requires a full time job. Once I get a house, basically would need to keep the full time job in order to keep the house I originally bought to do music full time in... holy dilemma Batman.

For me I have a full time job & still play music out live from time to time so for me realistically Music Licensing will be a part time income to start for sure, then maybe down the road it could turn into a full time income. Thx!

Do you send your tracks only to libraries or are you also sending directly to music supervisors?

The bottom line I get from these thoughts is that the only way to make it into music licensing is to go all in, full time. If we financially cannot do that right now, we need to work to buy the freedom to do it down the road. But there’s no way to keep a 9 to 5 to pay the bills while building your licensing artist career.
I’m not sure I agree.
This video don’t even consider micro-licensing on stock libraries an option. That is also passive income that can scale to a full paycheck and beyond even faster that hoping for big placements.
Not to mention the reality of subscription based libraries. When streaming platforms completely disrupted the music business and thrashed the old selling records business model making music on its own impossible to monetize (people can get anyone’s music for free these days) some artists weren’t able to accept it. Their careers died. That same trend is going to disrupt and completely brake the music licensing industry. Like it or not, big placements will be less that 10% of the market at some point, just in the hands of a few selected artists that are already inside. And subscription libraries will be not just the norm, but the only option. What then?

Hey Jesse, just a question that has nothing to do with the video but wanted to know your opinion. I've been reading a lot about A.I that are now able to make music. Do you think it will replace music library composers in the future?

Thanks for the video Jesse. My main fear of quitting my job, is not the money, but the health insurance! How did you manage giving up those kinds of benefits? Just grin and bear it?

Hope that got your attention. Yo Jess, loving Sync Edge so far (one week in, learning a lot!). I don't know if you check out these comments but I have a topic suggestion. Chairs. Seriously, Chairs. I bought what I thought was a good chair. Skeleton, fancy back etc ... bollocks! Plastic arm rests? My bad, I know duh! No joke, scabs on my elbows and hair doesn't grow there anymore from so much contact. So, video on chairs. We are in them a lot! Add a amazon link below so people can buy and you'll get a commission too, win win! Cheers!
