I cry when I hear this song. It sounds like a grown man crying, wailing about the loss to him of a woman he loved so dearly, that he worshiped but she moved on.... Oh my gosh. I love Pearl Jam.

“I know one day you’ll have a beautiful life, I know you’ll be a star in someone’s else’s sky but why can’t it be mine” for anyone that’s experienced heart break, this is one of the best worded lyrics on what it’s like. This song always brings tears.

This man lived this song and you can see & feel it. Eddie is a legend.

My late wife used to say Eddie's voice was like sandpaper that you wanted to feel on your eardrums. I drove her to North Carolina to see Pearl Jam and it was one of the best concerts ever!

You don’t understand how Eddie does what he does. You just nod your head and enjoy. Appreciating the greatness

She asks how he's able to do that.

Pain. Pure, unfiltered pain and emotion

He was actually very sick during this show and still killed it.

Eddie Vedder has an incredible way of invoking emotion. He makes you feel every note and every line.

The song is a Sun/Earth metaphor throughout. The Earth requires the Sun, the Sun would be just fine without it.

Cautionary tale to making someone the center of your universe when it's not equally felt.

That raspiness, that scratching of the voice, like claws scratching on rocks, it's a form of art that is disappearing, few people are teaching it anymore, and it's a beautiful way to convey and capture emotions as you can see in this song. I hope this way of singing doesn't disappear.

Pain... pain causes those wonderful sounds. Everything you've ever been through, Everything you wish you said or done just comes out in raw cries from your soul.

It always makes me so happy to see the reaction of someone that I know wasn't alive when this originally aired, or was way too young to remember it. I remember this MTV unplugged episode vividly, and Pearl Jam was definitely a huge part of my younger life. His voice is so unique. You instantly know who's singing.

Eddie is an incredible singer as in every song he put all his emotions into the song...this is what is the driving force of Pearl jam...Love it!!!!

Eddie Vedder goes beyond technique. As a singer, he doesn't do all these inane runs, and he doesn't have a super huge range. But in my opinion, there is no other singer that can convey as much sheer emotion as Eddie.

The emotional pain in his vocal amazing! Such passion

In an interview he said the unplugged set. This was the hardest song to preform. The hurt was still there and very painful. A lot of his inflections were him just holding his tears and emotions back. But the end he said he just let it all out. And the audience applauding is what kept him from losing it.

Eddie has a once in a generation voice.

Love Pearl Jam with all my soul.

You need to listen to Temple of the Dog, "Hunger Strike." Chris Cornell wanted to pay tribute to his deceased friend, Andrew Wood, the singer for Mother Love Bone. Chris teamed with the surviving members, and new singer Eddie Vedder to make a tribute album, and Eddie would join the members of Mother Love Bone to form Pearl Jam.
