Working on Your First Swing

Trevor Brazile talks about the most important things you need to achieve with your first swing in order to be quicker and up your catch percentage. Trevor talks about finding your center of balance in the saddle, riding across the line, and and demonstrates his first swing from holding the horn in the box and from cocking your rope back over your shoulder.

In the next video, Trevor will talk about scoring, riding your horse from the corner to the steer, and how the way you sit in the box, with either your rope cocked or your hand on the horn, affects your riding and roping.

I have taught myself to head by practicing a million hours on the dummy. It’s funny how you can pick up very subtle nuances by watching a video like this. I’ve taught myself well enough that I’ve had seasoned ropers over to my home and we hang out and visit and rope the dummy. Once they figured I knew what I was doing I got invited to jackpots. Guess my point is, if you’re knew to roping, PAY ATTENTION TO THE DETAILS. PRACTICE LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT. You WILL be rewarded.

Ive just started to get into calf roping and team roping, and im having some trouble with my swing. I start off good until I loosen my rope to feed more then I always figure 8, its not alot but its noticeable in video. If you know how i could fix this it would be appreciated.
