700% APPLICATIONS REFUSED STATUS UNDER EU SETTLEMENT SCHEME

A new report indicates that every 1 in 10 EU settlement applicants who obtained decisions last month was provided with no immigration status.
The number of EU Settlement visa applicants rejected post-Brexit immigration status under the EU settlement scheme has increased by 700 per cent in a month, statistics reveal, firing worries about the route less than a year before the closing date by which EU nationals and their family members need to apply.

700% increase in EU settlement scheme refusals
The Uk Home Office Data reveals that approximately 1,400 applicants were refused settled status in June 2020 only, as compared with 200 in May 2020. Generally, 2,300 refusals have been allotted since the scheme began in March 2019, denoting that 61 per cent of refusals were issued in June 2020.
In addition, the number of applicants not granted settled status because of their cases were either “withdrawn or void” or “invalid” – meaning they do not have a right of appeal – has also increased significantly, from 7,100 in May to 12,300 in June, a rise of 73 per cent.
Overall, almost one in 10 applicants who received outcomes in June were given no status under the scheme, according to the figures.
While the percentage of applicants who have not been approved settled status remains uniformly tiny at 1.7 per cent of the 3.5 million applications processed on the whole. Campaigners cautioned that the impulsive increase in refusals proposes straightforward cases have been spotlighted, while the more complicated cases have been set aside.
There are also worries about the fact that the UK Home Office has halted publishing details for refusals which are usually either eligibility or misconduct – on a monthly basis, which specialists said has directed to “less transparency in the system than ever before”. The UK Home Office stated this judgement was made in order to allow faster collation of the applications.

He further mentioned that “We are always looking for motives to provide status and refusals are a last resort. Nevertheless, applications will be rejected where an individual is a grim or unrelenting offender or does not meet the eligibility standards for the EU scheme."
