Scam Shops in Pakistan & India - Don't Be Fooled!

While travelling in India & Pakistan you'll find shops that have straight-up copied a famous shop's name, and then, opened their store next-door to the original!

In this video, you'll see the original Grato Jalebi sweet store in Rawalpindi and there's a big queue because locals know it's legit. But just a few metres down the road are 3 copies with the same name.

Karim's in Delhi also has the same problem. There are many counterfeit Karim's restaurants.

These fake shops make enough money to stay open by simply fooling travellers.

So don't be fooled, check online reviews to verify locations. Has this ever happened to you?

Basic rule of India: if there isn't a line/queue, don't eat there.

Yeah, I had been to Mumbai, where there is this restaurant called The Shalimar, whose biriyani is to die for but our driver took us to to the wrong Shalimar which was sadly fake and the food was sh**

A tip for travelers: Usually the real shops show up first in when search in google maps because of the reviews copycat shops have lower reviews (usually)

Here's a little something folks should know as well. Some fake stores get more famous than the actual store and ending up claiming the official name due to the original shutting down.

This can happen alot and is usually known only by locals or people who been to the original before it closed down. One of them is actually this Malaysian store I found out, called "My Voice Cafe" also known as "Big Bowl Ramen". I'm not too sure about its history but there's copies in its local area a few times when it rose to fame like funniest thing is that YouTubers reviewed the FAKE one and made it famous.

This kind of stuff happens all over.

I'm in South Korea. There's a "Costco Wholesale" in a nearby city maybe 40 minutes by car from my house. In my city, there's a small shop called "Cosco Wholesale" with the same color scheme. 😂

It's the same in my country Bangladesh. I live in Comilla city and there is a sweet store named "Matri Vander" originally famous for their 'Rasmalai'. You'd be surprised to know that there are 45+ stores named Matri Vander in my city...🙃

This has happened in Sheffield, England, too! There was a shop called Kebabish who made some pretty decent doner kebabs, and eventually people decided to steal the name. Now, there are now 9 Kebabish stores all run by entirely different people and with entirely different menus and quality!

Luckily, the OG Kebabish has rebranded to Original Kebabish and owns the copyright to that name, so it’s pretty easy to distinguish them from the copycats.

Won’t be necessary as I will never go to India in my entire life 🙌🏻👍🏻

Yes! This happens a lot. Glad you made a video because a lot of foreigners can get fooled easily because of these individuals. This has happened to me in India when I tried to get a video game disc. There were many places that faked shops and sold wrong copies of discs. I remember how awful that was as a kid.

It's very common business practice in India, copy the brand name.

In NYC, we have the Halal Guys on fifth ave. All the other 100 “Halal Guys” all over the city are NOT the original.
