Fernando Tatis Jr. is reportedly getting a 14-year, $340 million extension from the Padres. So just how good is the young shortstop compared to baseball's other young studs?

Brian Kenny digs into the early numbers for the San Diego star.

The Padres are going to get half of that money back in jersey sales alone.

Can you imagine he didn't sign this and had two more outstanding years and then he gets an offer...off the charts.

So happy I pulled his quad relic RC auto /25.

Tatis is a beast but those numbers are over 2 half seasons, which skew them a bit. As of now this is a win for Tatis. 8-10 years from now it could be a big win for the Padres.

I have been going to Padres games since 1970 . And now they decide to spend money? All the cash the Padres haven't spent in the last fifty year they should have quite the stack

Even if Tatis falls off the last 4-5 years of his contract, still a big win for the Padres. And for Tatis as well. Better to get this done now before the big gun shortstops like Lindor set the market for 2022.

Show him hitting .182 vs the Dodgers when it mattered in the playoffs.

Everybody has 3 different players they really like
The random player that doesn't make sense but he has a funny name or something of the sort: Thames
The really good player for their team: Yelich
And the player who isn't on their team but is really good: Tatis

Bigger market teams have tainted stats because of lineup protection. If these guys batted for shitty teams with stagnant lineups they would be singled out and dealt with.

I don't blame the Nationals for not signing Soto long term. The others on this list however are a must for their clubs. Those guys are legitimate five tool players.

He kind of reminds of Hanley Ramirez in his first couple years with the Marlins. I think Tatis Jr. will be great initially, but I don’t think the contract will age well.

hopefully he keeps it up bc if he falls off this will be terrible for the padres

Less than a year of experience. Plus he has to go thru that Dodgers pitching staff 10-15 times a year. Good luck

His defensive mistakes can be improved and hitting consistently but nearly a complete player in all facets. So pumped we have him locked up!
