The act of "making your bed" is unnatural and has its origins in regimented military. It's impractical and a waste of time. If you do things just "to get them done" without questioning WHY you should do them is a classic hallmark of military life. Much of military tradition is about indoctrinating soldiers into culture and mindset of mindlessly following orders and traditions for the sake of following them. The concept of "discipline" in this context is all about following the orders and commands of others, even so far as to take those commands with you after the military career, into something as sacred as your own private bedroom. This is a practice in cognitive slavery.
