“Anything that can create enough pain.”
I’ll hand him my car loan and mortgage repayment schedules. That should do it.

From a real event…. Never get in a vehicle if the driver displays a firearm telling you to do so, just run away as fast as you can. Odds are, he’ll drive away. If he fires, odds are the bullet won’t hit you. If the bullet strikes you, probably won’t kill you. If it does kill you, you’re better off than the end intended by the kidnapper. Visualizing a plan helps prevent the brain from suffering mental “vapor lock” when under duress.

This is probably the realest shit ive ever heard in one of these... Normally its some guy trying to explain to you how to become Bruce Lee in 5 mins and how to kick a criminals ass... He basically emphasizes that you should either give up whatever the guy wants, or try to run away if you can... And if you cant, thennnn fight and take the weapon away

I know an old man in his 70’s that carried a deactivated grenade he bought 40 years ago. It was always in his jacket pocket. Every-time someone tried to roll him he pulled the pin and pulled it out of his pocket and dropped it. When the thug saw the spoon bounce about twice he was gooone. Seems everybody knows how a grenade works.
Definitely would NOT recommend that tactic today!
The whole world would come unglued. Federals flipping out and all hell breaking loose. But in the 1960’s and 70’s it worked like a charm. Always wondered if they buried him with his favorite toy. He landed on Omaha beach on D Day. Man didn’t know how to be scared.

A very loudly shouted "NO!" is always a good idea. Draw attention to yourself and your adversary. Bad guys do not like witnesses.

I usually just scream "That's my purse, I don't know you" and kick them in the nuts.

Was almost robbed about 20 minutes ago. I was walking down a quiet side street and I noticed some guy walking in the middle of the road and he immediately started to walk over to my side once he saw me. All I did was walk around one of the cars whilst walking slow and showing him my alaskan malamute and he had second thoughts LOOL.

How about the methods the german police officially recommends:

-Allways keep at least an armlength distance
-Act as self confident as you can and loudly shout "Stop!"
-Involve other people by loudly shouting "You, over there, please help me...i'm in danger" while you directly point a finger at them.
-Don't try to defend yourself under any circumstances, because you may hurt the attacker and get arrested, or the attacker may get even more angry at you.
-Wait for the police...they will be there within half an hour to tell you how you triggered the attacker.

I am from NY and I have had many scrapes. I did something different every time. First of all, you should always have your head up, getting caught off guard is bad. Never wilt with fear and acting aggressive puts them off because they are used to people giving up their money. Giving up your valuables is not a guarantee they will let you go, screw that. I know self defense and that is all I will tell you. I've been surrounded by a gang and got away unscathed. You say anything you want, but I have had fights for my life and got away with my money.

a mugger once surprised me by putting me in a bear hug, I guess he thought he could make me pass out or break my back, dont know, but moments before this i noticed a pencil on the ground and picked it up. unconsciously holdong it as he assaulted me i must have touched his neck with the point, because he immediately dropped me and was screaming, thinking he had been stabbed. I walked away. the guy was stoned or drunk. as a writer, i always pick up pens or pencils out of respect. paid off.

In 1999, I was on call and had to drive from my home in Bethlehem, PA to Phila(Tioga-Nicetown) around 1am.

I did my best to push off the service call on the O2 con but the family couldn't change the "E" portable tanks so instead of hearing my boss complaining about the customer calling 911, I got my Wawa coffee drove down to Phila and into Tioga-Nicetown only to be met as I entered the area by a "disabled" vehicle with four guys in their 20s supposedly "fixing" the vehicle. I was the only other vehicle on the road and they tried to get me to stop by boxing me in with another vehicle and demanding me to stop.

My little voice kicked in and I used my cargo van, luckily a healthy Chevy V8 and pushed the other vehicle a enough for me to leave.

As soon as I got about 30ft away someone from the group hit my vehicle with a two crow bars which smashed both of the van's rear windows. Crazy!

I made it to my patient's home. Least they had coffee and yummy donuts while I switched out the concentrator and re-instructed the family on how to change the O2 backup tanks.

I like this guy.
His talk is short, straight to the point, and clear.

He defines the quote "Nuff said."

Please don't take the following as a sarcastic attempt at humor, it is not. One useful but rarely discussed martial art ability is running ability- the ability to run fast and also to have stamina. If one can distract a mugger for a split second and quickly bolt away, the mugging is stopped. If he/she is still chasing, most will run out of breath a block or two away. Again, the mugging has been stopped.... A number of years ago, in a east coast city, the newspaper had a story of a golden gloves boxer out on a training run. A number of would-be muggers tried to stop him. He side-stepped their moves and bolted away. He didn't want to risk hurting his hands. They tried to chase him for a few blocks but had to stop because they were out of breath. His running ability saved the day!
