I just bought a used gen 2 chromecast on eBay, as soon as I put it on it came up the can’t connect to wifi screen so I assumed the previous owner had the same issue & sold it to me as a dud. But I held the tiny button on the chromecast in for 20 seconds, it reset & works perfectly. Wish I’d known that before spending an hour faffing about with the wifi router.

I’ve been trying to fix this for hours. if this doesn’t work for you, I learned on a webpage that if you have a dual band settings (2.4GHz and 5 GHz) Chromecast only works on 2.4 GHz band (at least on an older one which I have). Once I found this put my problem was solved.

So a combination of steps worked for me (thank you, btw). Press and hold the button for a factory reset, and it only works in the 2.4GHz. The device updated and it is good to go. Had nothing to do with modem/router.

It depends on the chromecast you have, on mine there's a button in the circle thingy of the chromecast, you just need to hold the button until it resets the connection, open the google home app and follow the steps thoroughly.

For the people whom when it comes up check internet connection/restart router or something of the like.
Keep restarting router, it may take a few on and off's maybe a few more, but it will happen

You have to make sure location is on on your phone so Chromecast can find it... You may have Google home in your previous network you named and you pull down menu if you had to connect to before ..don't try to connect to Google home in the pull down menu. Go to like screencast or Smart view or whatever You having your pull down menu to connect your phone to your screen and then mine's recognized it and came up... But make sure you make a new network room location in the Google home app. Like when it says add a device

all you need to do to fix this option is hold down the button on the side of your chromecast device for 20 seconds to factory reset it. i had the same wifi issues then it fixed it. u will have to set it up again (new name)

I'm using Chromecast 1 and my wifi network is not getting listed in the last step.. So I tried to enter the wifi name and password and my Chromecast device is keep on searching for that network and it could not find it, even though I am able to connect other devices using the same wifi and connect to internet.
