Google Chromecast: How to Factory Reset & Setup (Android & iPhone)

This is an informational video on how to reset your Google Chromecast back to factory default as well as the setup process using an Android and iPhone. Note that both the 1st & 2nd generation can be factory reset the same way. This is a hard reset using the key/button. You do not need to have it plugged into your HDMI port however you do need to have the USB port pugged in to give it power.. I hope you find this tutorial helpful.

I was having connections issues with my Chromecast.
The spinning wheel would never end, when connecting to the TV.

Troubleshooting steps.
I had checked the cable connections.
Restarted the Chromecast.
Restarted TV and phone
Restarted my modem.
Closed and re-open the Google Home app.
Hard reset chromecast.

My chromecast was still not working until I uninstalled and re-installed the Google home app.

I went through the set up process and it connected straight away.

I hope this comment will help someone else.

THANK YOU! The simple - but genial - idea of showing where the button is made all the difference for me. I did not know of this button and when I looked at the dongle, I could not find it at first. Once I found it and followed your directions, it all worked out. I was able to bring back to life TWO Chromecast dongles that had just died on me. Spent hours trying to get them to work to no avail. Unplugging the dongle had no effect. In my case, the tablet gave the correct name for the network to connect to BUT the dongle added an extra "1" to the name of my network and therefore was not able to find it. Obviously. Thanks again. 🙂
