My mistake is telling family and friends that I’m going more minimal. Everyone feels the need to try to talk me out of it. Two of my children said thank you though. I’m saving them the time and energy of someday having to clean up my things. I like the term “practical minimalism”. I’m going to use that from now on. Thanks!

A smart person learns from his mistakes, but a truly wise person learns from the mistakes of others.

Nice video 😍

I think that sometimes we need to walk through this steps of minimalism. From fascination and overminimalising to our personal point of minimalism.

I'm so glad you mentioned wanting to declutter your husband's belongings for him! It's such an impulse for me to want to go through my boyfriend's clothing and narrow it down for him but I think it's so important to remember that it's not my place to make those choices for him. I find the biggest problem with him decluttering is not having the time or energy after he's done work to go through his stuff. Loved the video, thanks Ashlynne!

I love your point about minimalism not being just about possessions. The decluttering of my possessions is one of the last steps of simplifying my life and living more intentionally.

A lot of these "mistakes" (I prefer to call them learning curves) you've talked about are very relatable to me personally. Also, would you ever consider making a video about mental minimalism? It'd be interesting to hear your perspective of the different mindset shifts you've had to learn and adopt over time. Thanks for sharing! <3

I’m definitely diving into minimalism! My husband currently already is a minimalist naturally, it’s definitely myself that needs to get into it. I’m at a point in my life where I just want things more simple and less complicated. The amount of “stuff” I thought I needed to fill a void, makes me sad. It’s time for it to go. Thank you for the awesome tips!

Thank you for making this! I really needed to hear the decluttering rather than organizing tip ☺️

Buying the storage boxes for what I wanted to declutter from my life before I had decluttered was a mistake I made. I ended up with tubs that didn’t get used.

I found that even when I slightly mentioned minimalism to someone who was not open to the idea (I didn't know that at the time), the whole concept was shot down, critiqued and ridiculed. For myself, I enjoy sharing with other minimalist (or those who have decluttered their life) on youtube. Everyone in this community is very encouraging and I am able to share things that have helped me and gather so many, many ideas from everyone else no matter what stage of minimalism they are in! I love your videos and I always look forward to each one!! :)

SLIGHTLY off the topic of this video but... in light of not wanting to keep decluttering and then repurchasing things I’ve been trying to declutter my heaps of clothing from fast fashion brands and buy more intentionally as my shape has changed from having children. Last night I watched a documentary about fast fashion and it really hit home even more! I know you talk about it here and there in different videos but I would LOVE a video with maybe a list of your favorite ethically made sustainable brands that I could check out! (: I’m overwhelmed by trying to find them.

I was what you call a hoarder for so long. Always saving things because maybe I might needed it later whether it was for creative purposes or just for use. Since decluttering things my mind has been so much more clear. I am still progressing on this journey to minimalism but it is so much fun. It has helped me realize I don't need a lot of stuff to live happy, it gives you a whole new perspective in life. Good luck to everyone out there! 😊

I loved this video so much!!! I think one of the biggest mistakes I made in the beginning of my minimalism journey was purchasing more. I kept seeing these ideas and thinking I can't practice minimalism until I own all ethical clothing or until I have my dream room, all while holding onto everything I already had, which actually made everything harder to declutter through.

Another great video as always!!! <3
