5 Money Mistakes Before Minimalism

Before starting minimalism, I made these 5 mistakes that led to overspending and mismanagement of money. At the time, I didn't know these were mistakes but looking back I realized how they led to debt.

Minimalism has changed my life in so many ways. My relationship with money, food, stuff, family, and my minimalist mindset are to name a few.

My dear friend, have u looked in the mirror lately? Before u started this journey or at least at the beginning, you looked older and tired. Sorry to say that but it’s true! Now... OMG you look YEARS younger, happier, confident... in short u look amazing!!! Keep going, keep inspiring and stay happy! Your amazing!

Looove how you described the difference in your reaction... less clutter led to less stress and led you to have a more calm reaction to the paint rainbow. It's so true that clutter can stress us out, like it's silently screaming at us all day. Thanks so much for sharing your journey! :)

My mom used newspapers laid out on the couch to teach the dog to stay off. That way she could hear when the dog jumped up and the dog didn't like the sound of either.

We homeschool and my son accidentally left a caustic chemical on our kitchen counter that you can now see (he's doing high school chemistry this year). He felt terrible, but I was able to say, "It was an accident, and it's just stuff." Minimalism has definitely changed the way I see things, too. I LOVE the rainbow God gave you, Erica! :-)

Luckily this is a problem I don't have. I rarely buy things, even clothes.. I have bought good quality classic pieces in the past, so I'm still using clothes from 15 years ago.
The one thing we struggle with is the amount of toys my family buys for my son. 😩😩 They can't stop and they don't get how negative that is for my son. He has become too attached to material things and he doesn't want to donate or get rid of things. I'm working on it, but it never ends.

I’ve found your journey really exciting to watch.
I’ve noticed that you are visibly happier too.
Well done so far & I look forward to see where you go next

Be careful what you pray for, THAT’S THE TRUTH!! God is deeply funny...and also... He gives us what we pray for, but maybe not what we meant to pray for?? Once I prayed for patience and FINALLY LEARNED, as God sent me more and more frustration... we LEARN patience, we GROW it, by practicing it in frustrating or angry situations. It doesn’t just fall on our heads. The more I prayed, the more He sent!! I learned that A) He listens B) He responds and C) He knows what He’s doing, unlike me. I LOVE your rainbow.

Oh I am so guilty of organizing the clutter, buying the clutter, not meal you been secretly filming my life? Ha! I am so inspired. I resonated with every thing you mentioned. In fact it made me cry, I so needed to hear your insight! I have been struggling with prioritizing myself and my health, and everything makes sense about why I am having a hard time getting myself, and my household together. Thank you so so so much for this!

Ps: When my kids were little we had carpet in areas just like yours. Main traffic area, and under our table (where we did everything, school, crafts, eating, etc.) We got rid of all the carpet on our main living floor and put it wood, and tile, and vinyl throughout and have never looked back! Having carpet under my dining room table would probably cause me to be a very short tempered and stressed Mom! Just eliminate the source of the stress, the messes will be so much easier to clean up, and bonus(!) you won't be stressed about keeping the carpet clean. You can always use a rug in your living room where you want coziness under your feet, but you will never regret getting rid of that carpet!

Folex carpet cleaner gets paint out and is non-toxic, inexpensive, odorless, and readily available. You’ve done an amazing job!

My husband used to joke a was addicted to pretty boxes! No more. Today I declutter a box and managed to find another use for it to keep the kids toys in a better way. I wanted a box for them for a few weeks but resisted ordering it and bingo it's sorted now

I’m glad you got the couch. I’m sitting here thinking... I spent over 1, 000 on my daughters iPhone and about 1000 on mine and that’s a couch and an emergency fund right there!! Time to prioritize my spending for sure!

Thanks for not listing off all the same old things so many people list as ways to spend less. I get really discouraged with those lists, but I keep looking for ways to improve.
