By the way, Best Car Magazine also says that this 2.0L turbo 4 engine can be tuned upwards of 600 ps (metric hp) for track use, and that the application for MR2 should have at least 400 ps. So despite the small displacement, it produces power similar to a V-8 engine.

A turbocharged engine, all wheel drive and a 6 speed stick shift = almost heaven indeed !!! ❤️❤️❤️

Oh my God, the secret sauce, all-wheel-drive four banger turbo manual transmission and it’s reliable. It’s a drivers car. Thank you so much Toyota.

My first car was a 1977 Celica GT Liftback; Maroon metallic w/tan interior. I drove that car all over the US while serving in the USAF. Great car! I can't wait to see the rebirth of the Celica and MR2!

40-50k should not be considered affordable. Inflation is nuts.

I remember when you didn’t have to be a doctor or a lawyer to afford a new sports car.

They really need to make the MR2 a T top

I hope the 86 and brz brothers will live on as affordable performance cars for younger folks. Both the new MR2 and Celica would be great and I’m happy they’re coming out. $40-50k is too much for most young buyers.

The MR2 and the Celica will be marked up by dealerships to oblivion, hope they produce a lot of the Celica at least. Otherwise it will become another supra.
The Supra not selling well has to do more with dealership gouging that anything else, Toyota needs to get a hand on this, its killing all sports cars.

The MR2 will be RWD, and the Celica will be AWD as some of its previous iteration was.

My theory is the MR2 replaces Supra and Celica replaces GR86

I think I would give up all the money to get an all wheel drive MR2 in Blue Flame. Please let it happen.

The # 1 question and hope it is designed and totally assembled and made by Toyota.

As a huge 5th and 6th gen Celica fan, I am ecstatic by the prospect of a proper Celica finally returning. So long as the Celica and MR2 are purely Toyota in engineering, design and manufacturing, I think that they will have significantly better positioning from the get go than the current rebadged Subaru and BMW cars sold as Toyotas now. Hopefully a genuine Supra successor replaces the current imposter as well.

A turbo 4 with awd and a manual transmission for the Celica is the most perfect combination. Just like the old GT4’s.

Very exciting news! I am skeptical that the MR2 will be AWD only. The R meant rear wheel drive after all!

Interesting that the MR2 could take the Supra’s spot as Toyota’s flagship sports car.
