The next gen all-new Toyota GR Supra will not be co-designed with BMW, and instead, will be 100% Toyota-engineered - at least according to the latest speculation from Best Car Magazine in Japan. While there is still a lot of things we don't know about the next gen Supra, the Best Car Magazine claims that it will be a hybrid vehicle using the all-new 2.0L turbo 4 cylinder engine. It 's slated to debut in 2026 or 2027. Watch the whole video to find out more.

4 banger is going to fail. No inline 6??? I prefer a i6 BMW engine over a 4 cylinder turbo

Started saving $$ already - can't wait. That motor sounds so good in the demo drives I've seen videos off.

A 4 cylinder hybrid only Supra made by Toyota is less aligned with the Supra spirit than an i6 Supra made by Germans.

Great to hear it’s Toyota made. Terrible to hear it’s a 4 cylinder. Even if an electric drive system on top, no no no thanks. Glad I picked up an MK5 manual.

Man I still love and plan to purchase this current gen Supra. For me a big thing is the size. It better stay tiny like this current Supra

Well, that is great news!

Would like them to do a I5 or I6 engine.

A 4 cylinder Supra is a hard pass for me.

4 cylinder hybrid Supra no thanks for me, they should do a modernized 2JZ. I hope they fix the buffeting issue which was a deal breaker for a lot of people.

Idk why are people celebrating this, the Supra redesign looks worse than the current one and the BMW B58 based one has a ton of ECU tuning options plus it's a solid engine. I do not drive one but that Inline 6 from BMW is much better. Tacking a Hybrid joke is a fail on all levels for a sports car. 4 Cyl for a Coupe sports that will cost to the north of 60K+ ? It's a very bad option. I will take current gen Z4 / Supra made in Austria with ZF gearbox any day over this new joke. As for new RC/LC replacement, it will be a total junkbox. Existing RC F is a last F car with that masterpiece 2UR-GSE NA V8 engine, LC 500 is ultra luxury Lexus brand image GT car. Replacing with a 4 cyl popper is awful. That MR2 looks more like the new RC render. Then the LFR will be probably a halo special model competing with Porsche 911 GT3, Benz SL63 AMG and BMW M4 CSL.

David, We know you are very busy but your cover to cover "Best Car" magazine 'read along' videos are full of prized information. 😁 All these new RWD coupes from Toyota are fascinating but what abut the GR Starlet we see at 4:44 will that be FWD or AWD? Please give us plenty of notice if you are doing a livestream from Japan and one more thing, PLEASE don't lean on the
Land Cruiser.😉

Hybrid supra is not a SUPRA. 4 cylinder?
Good luck toyota. The only outcome of that will be rising prices for bmw supras. At least you get a 6 cylinder straight engine and no hybrid bullshit.

Hello David. Can I ask you a question? You are just the guy to ask! I checked the tire pressures on my new Corolla Cross and found 49psi on all 4 wheels. Why are they pumped up that high at the factory in Japan? Are they supposed to be lowered to the sticker pressure of 33psi at the pre-delivery? Thanks

Mr David Koichi
Is it possible that TOYOTA andBMW can adopt the TOYOTA's FTSE concept to call Supra

Why not put 2x GR yaris engine together to make an inline 6 instead? @AutomotivePress
VW and bughatti did it to make a W12 and W16 engine

I think Toyota should build all their sport cars in house, and keep their heritage. Mustang is best selling car wordwide, and Corvette is selling like mad. Hope they can bring I6 engine again, maybe two engines ?

I really hope the next Supra is large enough to comfortably fit 6 ft + Americans.
