I would put Peterson in a completely different bucket than those spirituality-based practitioners. I think Theil is really referring to the Sam Harris types, saying there is no free will, and you are fixed at the level of genetics. So just sit back in the inert window seat that we call consciousness, and grin and bear your way through the ride. (I know it's a gross oversimplification)

Theil misses the point when he dismisses tools for self-awareness and neuroplasticity(like meditation) and expects people to change themselves.

Yes, I know religion can offer the above, but why poo-poo non-religious methods. You're not going to convert everyone.
