Russia-Ukraine War l Why US May Send Iconic A-10 Warthogs To Kyiv Amid Putin’s Onslaught

The US has hinted at transfer of A-10 Warthog ground attack jets to Ukraine. Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall mentioned the A-10 when asked "What is it that the Air Force ... needs to let go of?" Kendall, speaking at the Aspen Security Forum on July 20, said Kyiv needed to upgrade its air power from the current Soviet-era jets. In its budget request for the 2023 Fiscal Year, the Air Force requested permission to retire 21 A-10 Warthogs. Watch the video to know more.

A-10 and AH-64 provide a huge morale boost to the infantry anytime they are used.

I never thought i would be praying for more weapons to be given to Ukraine. My brothers and classmates are on front line. In Gulf War we lost an engine and wing and still landed back to base they were tough birds of prey and very bad for Russian planes and troops too.

A-10 is a Great Support Aircraft, once Air Dominance is achieved. Without Air Dominance, they are highly vulnerable!

I expect this to happen . The airforce would love to get rid of some of these planes. They have been trying to eliminate them for years. They are an easier plane to fly and service. They have a good rep for being pretty tough. They would be useful. They also offer the US and Nato a platform to utilize a whole bunch of wing mounted weapons that may being phased out. Nato has been able to provide older but very capable weapons to Ukraine. This allows them to update and standardize on more modern systems. This are extremely effective, in greater supply and better than obs or upgrading them .

As long as they aren't targeted I could see A-10's being very useful. The best Russian tanks could resist the cannon but Russia is pretty much all out of those and the remaining Soviet tanks aren't doing too well. The Ukrainians need to kill the Russian artillery now and A-10's could prove very useful at assaulting rows of less armored howitzers.

The best tool for the job of taking out the long lines of tanks 10 at a time as opposed to one or two at a time with drones.
